RxDuino Group Buy Has Begun!!

K sweet, glad you got yours.
Ok so the way that the thin wire gets plugged in is with the flat side up (the little tabs should be pointing down). There is no harm in plugging it in backwards. You wlil know it is in the wrong way by the fact that it will not turn on when attached.
Also, I found a major issue with obtaining the ECU data that causes random reboots. I have fixed the issue so I can send you the firmware update. Are you on Google+ or anything that we can communicate real time so I can make sure you are able to update the firmware without issues?

Voids warranties
Not on google+. But Ill look into it. But before we get into updating and fixing, let me tell you about a couple other things I experienced. I'm certainly not complaining as I know we are still in the trial and error stage, but just a few things you should know.
1: First and foremost you may not have experienced this because you have an aftermarket radio. But the rxduino and the oem stereo have a bit of a battle for domination over the display screen. It flickers rapidly back and forth for a minute or so before I get a result. I had to try to unplug and replug the box in a few times. Sometimes the oem stereo wins and the display stays normal. Sometimes the rxduino wins and I get the info display. Sometimes its a mix of both with weird symbols that don't make sense and get frozen.
2: Once when I plugged it in the up button didn't work. Had to reset it. And also sometimes the button response for all three is very sluggish. Have to push quite a few times before it will switch.
3: Twice it locked out after scrolling through all the options (cancel button) Then wouldn't do anything else after reaching the last option. Had to reset both times.
4: While the key is on or driving, if I decide I no longer want to use the unit and unplug it, The screen is blank. I have to shut the car off then back on to get my radio display back. Not sure if it supposed to be like that or not but it is that way every time.
5: Sometimes the reaction time of the info being displayed is really slow or doesn't change at all from the initial reading that was taken, Sometimes its instant with zero reaction time.
---
Not sure if you experienced any of this with your personal unit. Just some things to think about.
Aside from all that I love having it (when it works properly) Playing with the "engine load" feature is gunna get me into trouble...
Its kinda fun to compare live fuel economy with engine load...

To Update To The Latest Firmware, first download the latest console:
http://therxduino.com/rxduino-console/
then firmware version 1.01 from:
http://therxduino.com/firmware/
And follow the instructions on pages 9 and 10 of :
http://therxduino.com/wp-content/upl...he-RxDuino.pdf
Edit: I am working on a newer version of the console that will alert you as soon as a firmware update is available.
Also: All technical discussions will be had https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...39#post4297439

That is where the technical discussions are being had. Chances are that you need to download the FTDI drivers for windows. Some people have them preinstalled, some dont.
Also make sure the cable is pin side down
Please read the first post in that thread as I outline how to get you updated to the latest nightly build which has a lot of fixes

Out of USA I use DHL normally, excellent service, I can get here in 4-5 days to my door, but you pay for it too.

It's arrived! :-)
Trying to get to grips with "which way us 'up' and 'down'" do I get the Console Cable orientation correct!
I think I have this correct now - console is connecting, but not reporting the firmware version of the unit.

Hey guys. Sorry to dredge up a dead thread, but I'm looking to buy / build a new unit for myself. I can see that Paimon isn't often on anymore and I'm trying not to bug him. I've contacted a few of you guys who are no longer RX-8 owners, but of course most don't come here anymore.
Hardware-wise, I think I only have 4 options:
1. Buy someone’s used RxDuino (much-preferred)
2. Build another few of Paimon's released board and run that, perhaps make a few extras
3. Reassign the I/O in Paimon's code to run on an Arduino plus 2 shields like he originally prototyped
4. Go some new route using Canbus Triple above or similar tool, but I really just can’t keep up with the conversation
There are two things I'd like to change in the code if I get the opportunity:
1. High priority messaging push (coolant temp too high, tire temp and TPMS, perhaps) goes straight to the display
2. Emergency messaging (overheat, blowout) results in honking the horn
If anyone has any insights, wants to assist, has an extra or an old unit no longer used, please shoot me a PM.
