Purchase Information
Welcome to the RxDuino group buy! I know a lot of you, including myself, have been awaiting the day that this goes on sale. Well, that time is here! For those who have been following, the RxDuino is a project that I have been working on for almost a year now with my own money and time for the Series 2 (2009-2011) RX8. This project brings added functionality to the multi information display in the RX8. For more information and videos, please click the link in my signature that will take you to the development thread.

Because the device will be built per order, the group buy wil follow a number of steps to ensure that the buyer is protected, as well as the seller (me) is protected from a loss of funds.

Purchasing Steps
1. Your name will be added to the purchase list
2. You will be given an EULA to read over and electronically sign *
3. Once the order minimum has been met, a $75 deposit will be taken to secure your order. **
4. Once your order comes in, the rest of the payment will be requested

* An EULA is required because this is a part used in a motor vehicle. The EULA simply states (in layman's terms) that if you decide to take your eyes off the road and mess around with the RxDuino, and drive into a tree, you cannot hold me accountable

** The Deposit is NON REFUNDABLE, Unless the order is not fulfilled by me. This protects me from spending money on production only to end up with a surplus that I cannot afford.

What Your Order Gives You
1. The RxDuino Unit
2. A DB9-to-OBD2 cable
3. A FTDI-to-USB cable
4. All related software
5. Instruction Manual

FAQ
1. What happens if the 15 orders is not met?

This means that the lead time will be increased as I will need to build these boards by hand instead of submitting them in a fab shop. I guarantee that the hand built boards are quality tested.

2. What is the lead time between deposit and delivery?

The fab shop promised me a 15 day lead time. I would expect that all products will be shipped out within 20-30 days. Again please understand that these boards are built when the orders come in.

3. What operating system is supported for firmware updates?

The software is written in .NET which means that it will work only on Windows machines. There may be support for other platforms in the future.

4. Do you provide any warranty?

I provide a 30 day warranty. This means that if you order the product and it stops working, you may exchange it.

5. How do I report firmware problems

Once orders are shipped out, I will create a thread dedicated to issues and solutions.

Unfortunately the screen on the S1 uses a different messaging protocol than the S2, therefore at this time it is not supported :(, sorry.

amdhunter 04-24-2012 07:41 AM

Please add me to the list - are we waiting to submit deposits until the 15 orders are met?

paimon.soror 04-24-2012 08:06 AM

Correct, I want to make sure that this process is as comfortable for the buyer as can be and will not accept deposits until we can get everyone on board. This way I am not holding on to your money while you wait ;). Added you to the list, thanks!

bhammer 04-24-2012 09:43 AM

Ohh, dang, I thought I was on the list. Please add me!!!

paimon.soror 04-24-2012 09:44 AM

seanp 04-24-2012 07:04 PM

Such a clever device, must have one!

> At the current moment, orders are limited to locations within the USA. Once orders go out and initial feedback is received, international orders will open.
Dang :(
As soon as you are ready to ship outside USA, please add me to the list. (How come Ash8 is on the list though?) :)

Heya, I would like to have a single international tester from each possible location, which is why ASH8 is on the list. With his help I will be able to bring a firmware that has the proper metric units and will also ensure that the monitors that are not available on international vehicles will be disabled (i.e. the tire pressure/temp sensors, i believe ASH8 mentioned that the international cars dont have TPMS?)

If I do have trouble filling all 15 slots though, I would love to have you on the list! I hope you understand that the only reason I am doing this is because I want to make sure that all customers from all locations are satisfied!

carrrnuttt 04-24-2012 07:30 PM

BTW, I never really followed this in your main thread (sorry), but how hard would it be for you to add an Arduino bluetooth module to this? I know the module itself is relatively cheap, just don't know about integration issues with your software.

Or you could even build one out with the Arduino BT board.

If all this has been covered, I apologize, but it might be a good question to have up front for your future customers.

paimon.soror 04-24-2012 07:34 PM

the RxDuino has expansion ports on it that will open the possibilities to add ons in the future. Unfortunately the expansion slots are not made so that a "Bluetooth Shield" can be installed as is.

In the other thread I tossed up ideas like a "Track" addon that would have a gps module and a sdcard slot, a wifi addon, and a bluetooth addon ;). These will be projects down the line though.
