I wasn't commenting on the quality of the welds...jut the fact that you have to be more careful with the aluminum than the sheet metal. There have been problems with the cast aluminum Greddy pan cracking for re-installs too if care isn't taken when removing it
That is my only concern with these aftermarket oil pans. Because my car is a DD, I fear the beating that the greddy/this pan will take over its lifetime. Last thing i need is a failure.

9k, any indication that this will not fit with the s2 sump guard?

I bought it about a year ago if my memory serves me correctly.

How is this any more than a rough prototype?
Its not any more or any less then a ruff prototype. It dose not appear much or any test fitting was done prior to shipping.

I would have picked up the greddy pan but did not like the idea that it sticks out lower then the stock one and is a cast piece. There is no way 9k and I could tell if will work with the stock s2 guard for two reasons, #1 was not going to pull the stock pan off the r3 and #2 my pan is an older unit Scott had made and he said his new ones are of a different design that fits correctly.

Frankly im more then a bit disappointed. If he changed the design he knew mine would not have worked and should have given me a work around/heads up or offered to fix it.

Oh I was under the impression that this too hung lower than stock. If that isn't the case then I don't see why it wouldn't fit properly with the S2 guard. I guess we will see should the need arise.

It should fit with the guard no problem.

Did he at least offer a discount?

I had the pan for about a year and he never once mentioned it would have fitment problems and that is what upsets me more then anything. At this point i dont want a discount or refund. Really im just disappointed and dont want to think about it anymore.

Not quite sure how you broke the set screw...those things are a lot stronger than a normal bolt

Be careful when you remove the pan. The aluminum is a lot more fragile than the sheet metal pan and it can seperate the welds if you aren't careful.

It is a good idea when doing the install to drain the motor and let it sit with a bag or something keeping the dust out for a few hours....it will make cleaning it up perfect a lot easier..then you won't have the RTV issue. Same goes for re-doing the stock pan. If the oil is still dripping when you try and seal it with the RTV you will have a leak
I let it drain for 2 days and cleaned everything real good but my problem was no matter how well I cleaned it I would still get a drip from the pressure regulator that would run to the area where the pan mates up to the engine. (not sure the correct terminology) I would clean it and by the time I got the pan back in hand ready to go on the oil would be right back. It is impossible to get a car level on jack stands in my garage. Is there a way to use an air compressor to blow out oil excess oil? Or should I have taken the pressure regulator off and cleaned it?

I must have just gotten a weak screw because I didn't have trouble with the others and as that one was going on the head snapped off and I did clean all the threads really well so that should have been an issue.

I got mine in March, I was under the impression that you had just recently ordered yours so he has probably fixed the issue since I purchased mine. My pan is also designed a little different that yours.

WOW..Can't believe it was still dripping enough to get oil on the V after a couple of days...you have shitty luck

Hopefully when you remove the pan you can get the RTV on it before it drips this time...hopefully the screw is sticking out enough to get it out easily

I wanted to take a moment and chime in here.

The oil pan Mike (hoss-05) installed did have an issue with the rearward baffle, I apologize for the oversite, my fault plain and simple. This pan was built and sold in the fall of 2010 and I honestly forgot that we used a wider material in that area in a few pans which ultimately created the issue. I have apologized to Mike privately but would like to do that here as well. I am sorry for the error.

Every oil pan that ships from my facility currently is test fit on a RX-8 engine before it ships to verify the pickup tube clearance and fitment is spot on!

Rolando your unit was shaken out, then blown out, then rinsed out then blown out again. During the coating process it is sand blasted and dipped in an etching/cleaning solution before coating. If the sand was not completely removed I assume that could cause a caking situation internally. My apologies, I will be mindful of this in moving forward.

Thanks, Scott@RX8Performance

I finally got around to installing my dual rotary canister from Rx8performance that I got a week ago. I had zero issues installing it. Came with all the hardware needed so it bolted right in.

The washer fluid pump hole looked to be sized right but I sealed it with some RightStuff RTV just for some extra insurance that it wouldn't leak. I didn't like the bottom brass fitting for the sohn reservoir that it came with because it was too big to fit the hose I used, but luckily the one I had used for my old reservoir fit perfectly in its place. I was provided with the extra hardware if I ever decided to convert the sohn tank into a catch can. I also didn't have to worry about plugging a top brass adapter because it already came plugged.

One thing I noticed is that washer fluid would easily leak out from to top drain from sloshing if over filled so I ran a hose down so that it would just drain out the bottom rather than get all over my engine bay. This looks so much better than my old ghetto reservoir and it holds more Idemitsu.

I just ordered motor mounts from him yesterday. I hope I have a good experience .

I wasnt sure whether to go with the OEM mounts or the performance ones from scott. Looks like the price is right though, so I hope it works out.
