Let's see, this will be only the ones I've turned a wrench on and/or written payment books for:

1960 VW "Bug" (6 volt electrics, finding parts was fun in 1974)
1973 Mercury Capri V6 w/ phenolic timing gears(!)
1978 Ford Fiesta
1981 Mazda GLC-SE (found the right brand )
1981 Mazda RX-7 (still have, pretty much a 'basket case' now )
1985 Chevy Celebrity w/ auto and 4-cylinder (lost my religion)
1989 Mazda MPV w/ 5-speed and 3.0L V6 ("I have been SAVED!" )
1996 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L V6 auto (Still have as swanky freightliner)
2005 PT Cruiser Touring. Less said, the better.

and now...

2004 Lightning Yellow RX-8 6-spd w/ side fairings, chin fairing, curved towelrack spoiler and no damned sunroof! Life definitely looks better over that hood, and sounds fantastic even with stock exhaust.

Mine was a 2000 Z28, w/ 383,9lb paxton sc, 100 shot nos, 383 rearend. Guy ran a stoplight at clipped me at 65 in a 35 and totalled the car. bent the fram 18 degrees out of square. Man I miss the torgue, but wouldn't give up the 8. even though I have had to put over 5 grand in keeping it on the road this year, with the cost of a tranny and clutch.

Slow upgrades

For oldest to newest...

1985 Plymouth Horizon (Hatchback) Two-tone Grey
2000 Pontiac Sunfire SE Silver
2000 Dodge Durango XLT Graphite
2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser GT Gold
2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Daytona (Still own) Silver
2006 Mazda RX8 GT M/T (Still Own) Phantom Blue

Sad part is besides the RX8, i miss the hatchback the most... lots of good memories in that car.

Wow...Cool. Good for you...I envy you. I used to drive European cars like BMW M3 E30, E36, Ur Quarttro, MB 190E 2.3-16. However, due to financial difficulty in the past, I down-graded to FC turbo, Miata. Among all the previous cars I owned, I like the RX-8 the most because of its vesatility, styling, as well as handling.

1986 Porsche Targa. loved it to death... stripped it completely to like 2500lbs.. no carpet, no sound insulation, no ac, no radio... the only creature comfort i had was power windows but that only added like 2 lbs. no back seats.

1991 Isuzu Impulse XS (handling by Lotus!)...Totaled after a month

1986 Monte Carlo SS w/ functional ram air hood scoop (yes, I took a sawzall to the hood and then fabbed an intake) (rwd v8 in the rain + teenage driver + phone pole at 50 mph = totaled... still miss it, glad to be alive)

1991 Caprice w/ police package 5.7L (p.o.s.)

2000 Eclipse GT (ran straight pipes, ripped out all three cats, short ram K&N intake, eibach springs (lowered 2"), KYB AGX shocks, shifted like sex, handled great, exhaust sounded amazing, 14.8 in the 1/4 mi., and 28 mpg to boot!)

2004 RX-8 Nordic Green 6MT ... after the eclipse, I'm done modding for a while. plus the car is already what i want... no modding necessary. for now.

2004 Golf TDI. Sold to my (not quite) ex-girlfriend. My last pic of it, taken in March 2006 when I drove the 6 home from the dealership.

That VW was a kickass car. I paid it off in 22 months. Almost 40MPG in city driving, 50 on the highway. I went on a trip from Southeast Virginia to New York City back in 2005, and I was back in Virginia before I had to fill 'er back up. Over 700 miles on one tank of diesel. TDI-heads have an obsession with how many miles they can get from a tank; some have been known to hypermile and get over 800, but hypermiling is boring when you have all that low-end torque at your command.

I only got rid of it because the 6 was so much more comfortable and a smoother ride, and I found myself not driving the Golf anymore. Looking back, I wish I had gotten something impractical (like the RX-8 or some other sports car/gas guzzler) as a second car, then I would have kept the VW for my daily driver. Instead things kinda shifted a bit...
