What was your previous car?
My one and only previous car was a 2003 Mazda Protege LX... I bought an automatic (didn't know anything at the time), which was the breaking point that made me go for a new car.. I really wanted a stick, and the RX-8 was my dream car and the only car worth going for. It was Mazda's fault that I bought the RX-8, because the Protege was really fun to drive (for what it was).

(ice racing was fun in the Protege)

In 1995 we purchased a 96 Infiniti I30t. We purchased our 8 in Sept 2005 then sold the I30t one week later. We had put 260,000 plus miles on the I30t. I was still in great shape. In fact we sold it for $4000.00.
2004 S2000
My previous ride was a 2004 S2000 which I sold about two months ago, It was fun at first with the go-kart like chasis and convertible (my previous car was a Z3 2.8) but after 10K miles you get sick of it. What kind of a car gives you all nightmares in the traffic, no space no place to put your coat or even your CD case. Anyway My Rx-8 is coming this week and it looks like a good choice !!
With 3 kids (and another since the purchase) I had to get a 4-door. The '97 Bonneville SSEi was the second best car I ever had (first was a '93 Mazda MX-6). Great car, awesome reliability (very well known in the 3800 series + supercharged) and serious comfort...of course I needed half a city block to turn it around. The kids miss "Bonnie", but I am now the coolest Dad in town when driving "tRiXiE".
2000 audi a4 quattro 2.8
This car reminds me of a decent looking girlfriend with big bones trying to be classy. I visited the audi dealership more often than I would have liked mostly because of minor problems, they didn't offer a loaner or a rental even if the car is at fault.
Paying what I paid for the car brand new, I expected more... the lack of power was negligible, but its the other annoying things like squealing brakes which sounded like a bus at times, weird engine noises, bad engine mounts causing the car to vibrate at idle, wheel bearings that went at 40k miles, an air conditioning unit that's freakin loud during the summer... now that I think about it, it was a painful 5 year investment. I kinda lost count with all of my service visits outside of a damn oil change.

93 Chevy Astro Van - no rearview mirror, no sideview mirrors, no seatbelts, no wipers, no back seats, side skirts draggin on the ground and a rusted out muffler that made it sound like a monster. Topped out at 58 mph. Can't beat that!
Upgraded to 98 Sentra XE - no passenger seat, one window roller for all 4 windows, and spoiled milk in the trunk.
Then the 8 =)

2002 WRX, lease was up and it was time for something new. It was a good car, I especially loved the AWD in the rain. Was a magnet for all the wrong kinds of attention and the turbo lag wore on me during the summer.
I traded in a 2003 Honda Accord EX with Voice activated Nav, heated leather, basically loaded. The only thing I miss is the Nav system. Honda nav is so much better than the POS they call nav in the RX-8.
