I remember the dealership having one just like it in 2004, and getting a quote of $29500. I was torn between this and an STI. I never made it to the VW dealership, because I went to Subaru first. Got a silver 04 Sti for $29000, and passed on the R32 deal, choosing pure performance over refinement. I'd still love to have one of these, as I'm still a huge VW fan. I guess this car really holds it's value due to being sold only one year, and such limited (only 5000 total). Can't beat the mileage on that, so for the right person that is a good deal on a very rare car.

that is a good price. r32's are very hard to come by, and the one in the MK5 body is going to be DSG only, no manual...and not until sept 07

i see a whole bunch for sale by me with 20-30k miles on it going for more then $30k

What I see is a flooded used market, because of the high demand and limited quantity used. People think they can get 30k for this car used with 20k+ miles, and some can with lots of patience, but I've seen too many autotrader listings that have had their R32s sitting on there for months. Lots of failed sales, but on ebay I see lots of ability to get one of these for very good deals (23-25k range with 20-30k miles.) Sellers have a habit of way overmarking their cars, so the interested buyer can haggle them down, yet still overpay for the car thinking they got a better deal. Hell I could have gotten one new for $29000. I bet I could get one of these for 25 grand with less then 20k miles on it. Of course I wouldn't because this car likely isn't gonna be on the top of the reliability charts in future years to come. It's a great machine to keep as a weekend driver, and makes for a decent investment long term, as long as you keep the miles WAYYYYY down, and the condition prestine. That's no fun though. I buy cars to drive, not to sit and admire.

I think I'd rather have the new Audi S3 packaged in the Golf/GTI body instead of the MkV R32. Still have 4 motion, still have 250hp, but it's a lighter engine and undoubtly a turbo-back exhaust, intake and "chip" will have it seeing 300hp pretty easily.

That and if VW only brings the R32 with DSG... not interested.

Hmm... seeing what the price is for the S3 and a pissy DSG only R32... this may be a nice idea... GTI engine retuned (no internal changes unlike the S3... just retuned) for 230hp and 4 motion. Position it inbetween the GTI and R32 with the R32 line being a limited edition for two or so years for a total of 6-7000 units.

The R36 is gonna own the R32 when it comes out. And hopefully they throw a proper 6-speed standard on the R36 because I heard the DSG can't handle its power.

I dunno about that. At least in the MkV chassis the 3.6 won't fit, so it's out. In the MkVI? Who knows. Either way... the V6 makes the car nose heavy and if the 2.0 T-FSI can make similar power... why bother with the V6?
