Just walked out on a deal... or rather was asked to leave...

Been talking to the dealer on and off for the last week and a half. I've talked to all of the sale guys. Made an appointment, about 7:00pm dealership "closes" at 8pm. All that was left was a 2004 yellow sport package, dealer added leather, rotary accent , appearance package, spare tire kit ( car has several good gashes in paint etc as well, 204 miles, and the saleman was punishing the car... zipping along at 9g's @ 93 mph.. not good.). sticker was 29,949. invoice was 27,000. Bitched and moaned about the yellow color for 3 hours. got them to give me 2,900 in cash to payoff my honda and after another 1/2 hour of whining i ot them to chuck the $899 leather charge. ended up with at out the door pirce with tax tag title of about $31,889 IIRC. Got favorable interest rates of 4.99%. F&I guy finally pissed me off. I stuck to my guns and told him what I wanted. The tried to change some things around. I got some things in writing, however he was wording them all slick. I finally sent him packing back to the the GM @ 11:30pm fix it or no deal... No deal.

fwiw, I paid $28K out the door for my 04, with sport and appearance packages. Don't pay more than I did for one.

Yeah, that's not a great deal at all. Just bought my '04, blue, grand touring, 6mt earlier this month and only paid $25,856.00 for mine. Kepp looking, there is a better deal out there. Just play their game. Call around and ask for the bottom line prices and then work your way down from there. For the price you're looking at for the yellow 8 you might as well get an '05 in the color you want. Practically the same price.

Also - where are you? In some areas of the country that 'might' be a good deal. In WA it's not...course, getting a GT for $25K isn't realistic where I live, either...hehe

If this were a new car it would be a great deal. Using your number and backing out the cash payoff, leather, and other accessories, you ended up at close to $24,300. (Using 8% for tax, tag, fees + 2900 payoff + 2300 options). I would have offered $23K because of the miles. (But would have backed away if I really thought the car was abused).

I'm on florida, it's 6 % tax ( $1800 ) and about $1200 in dealer title doc and loan fees. I'll post a picture of the window sticker. i though it was a pretty decent deal. I got 2900 payoff + 900 leather +500 gerber off of invoice. Payments would have been about $490 for 72 months @ 5.49% interest or $589 at 60 months 4.99% interest. with no down payment at all. Honestly I'd have jumped at it if the F&I guy didn't start weaseling around.

this was a new 2004, build date 9/03 with 204 miles. although after my test drive with the saleman where he punished it, traction control off messing around etc, and mine, where I grannied it around for the most part i was worried about the long term longevity.. also they refused to offer any kind of extended warranty besides fidelity first ( which I assume has the highest commision ). I asked several times about the mazda warranty which the said wasn;t offered but I knew otherwise as well. that's about the time things started going downhill.

wow...run from there- never go back... You will have the remainder of the Factory Warranty at LEAST...I bought a car from an Insurance Auction (Was 'totalled'; I paid a shop to rebuild). I took it to ford, and the dealer covered the spark plugs and distributor because the mileage and year of the car were within the factory warranty.

I wouldn't buy a car that was obviously punished and abused on a regular basis - only God knows how many times did it see redline during those 200 miles already.
Unless they'd give it for a ridiculously low price of course - and I just can't see how can they claim there would be no factory warranty on that car.

One thing to consider is do you want to deal with these jackholes if you have to get serious work done because of the sales idiots redlining the engine in the break-in period?

Ok I bought it. Got them to come down another $1000, tried to say the gerber rebate was no good, called mazda usa. Mazda backed me up, called and faxed everything to the dealer, and then called back and told me that the dealer was told to honor it and they would call back to check with me to make sure. I ended up getting the car for about $5900 under invoice.

I'll post the voicemails including mazdausa calling me back. Good for lots of laughs. I'll guarantee that I'm legend now at the dealer and that they have never worked to hard to sell me a car that they paid more for than I did.

As far as service, there's another mazda dealer just down the road from where I work, so I'll probably take it there.

I'd be real wary of a 9/03 build sitting on the lot as new. Hope you have good luck with it. Welcome to the Lightning Yellow club. You certainly picked the right color

Awesome that you worked it out! I hope they don't pull any after-the deal crap on you. Don't forget to post pics in the "Calling all Yellows" thread.

When I was shopping for my 8 a few months ago I tried there. Of course they had like 5 or 6 yellows. They wouldnt move much from thier prices. Wonder why they have so many yellows on the lot still:-)

Aseras I'm glad you got them down more! Back in January in south florida I had dealers down to $28k out the door for a GT + appearance package with a few extras and colors other than yellow. I was going to say if you couldnt get them to drop any more I'd search around some other dealers. Congrats on the new ride!

hope you didn't buy the one the dealer redlined...especially with 240 miles on it, it should be considered "used."
