What about the new McLaren MP4-12C supercar?
Haven't seen anyone talk about the new McClaren or even compare it to the new Ferrari 458.
When the Ferrari 458 pics first came out in mags, I acknowledged it as probably the most beautiful supercar in a long time, miles better looking than the awful looking Ferrari California.
Then the pics of the McLaren came out and I was impressed but not awed initially. But I now think it's an absolutely beautifully understated car. I love the dark mask trick on the front airdam (458 is the only other car I know that does that too). Love the integrated rear spoiler (Ferrari has never come up with something like that). And about the interiors, well, Ferrari interiors are beautiful but there seems to be a common theme over the last 10 years and so I can't say they're innovative anymore. But the McClaren interior IS innovative, beautiful in its own right, and totally different from Ferrraris.
I was dismayed to notice that at some three-quarter angles, the Ferrari 458 looks kind of weird. It's just too bad that the 458 is overall such a beautiful design that could have been the most perfect-looking car since the Lamborghini Miura, but it's not quite there. I feel the McLaren has fewer weak spots, even though the overall design is not as flashy as the Ferrari.
Cosmetically, for me, the only design weakness is that double shark grille on the side. Functionally, I don't like the gullwing doors; I feel it's unnecessary.
Over the last month, as I've allowed both designs to sink in, I'm surprised that I think I actually prefer the McLaren!

Wheels on that thing are weak, very...blah. Also has too much wheel gap for a supercar IMO. Dont get me wrong, its badass and i would take it in a heartbeat, but those 2 things would def be changed first thing

not hideous, but not attractive either.
i'd much, MUCH rather take an original McLaren F1 over any of these jokers. 627hp, naturally aspirated...in 1993! bmw can sure make a motor. S70/2 ftw.

Hopefully this car will be successful and bring home enough bacon to develop a new version of something similar to the F1 but I don't think there will ever be another car like that.

I agree with you. Both Lamborghinis are outdated on the outside and inside. It's almost as if Lambo has lost its creativity and can only rehash its two current designs. An example of a rehash is the hideous Reventon. The Murcielago is a strange illusion because it looks bubbly and bloated but when you go up to it, it's really pretty damn low. They need the Murcielago replacement asap.

Yeah, one thing I think Ferrari overdid on the 458 are the low doors with the angular creases. We've had so many sports cars over the last 10 to 15 years incorporate the high door sill, compacted side-glass look. The very first car to do this was, if you remember, the last Toyota Supra. I remember back then when a major car mag wrote that the top portion, strangely, appeared to be at 3/4 scale relative to the rest of the car. So I think Ferrari is purposely leading a reverse-direction trend here. But the sharp creases make the already-low door sill oddly appear even lower.
