It's a Cavalier
I don't know what some of you guys are seeing.
That's some of the least derivative styling I've seen. Each stylistic element is thoughtfully integrated and balanced.
I think it's absolutely fantastic. I'm amazed with the way this car looks.
Unfortunately, I have no doubt it's going to get all messed up when it's taken to production.

+1.....toyota knows that most people want more than 160....but then again they didn't put a turbo in the last MR2 . But yeah if they do decide to come out with it...hopefully in the next year (or not) I would so get one. It's been forever since toyota made a sporty car, let alone a RWD. Hmmm...I could some someone putting a 2jz in it............

I like how entry level sports cars are coming out nowadays.
Companies are finally realizing that Miata sales are so great because of what it is.
I agree, its gonna be a Scion in the US. When you think Toyota, you think nerd and geriatric, the car could be a 20g GTR and most wouldn't buy it on that fact alone (Sad really). Besides... that's what they made Scion for in the first place. Subaru's market is also looking very... middle aged. Scion is a perfect marketing tool....
For me to poop on

I dont see the MX5 in danger ever. Its perfection. My only qualm with the car is lack of a non-convertible version AKA Coupe.
It has price point, balance, looks, great gas mileage, (from what I hear greater than advertised).
Most importantly (from a sales perspective) it attracts all types. Elderly, Young, Family guys who want a weekend car, Retirees, Porsche owners, Grandma, Grandpa, Homosexuals... well you get the point.

I thought the original idea, rumor, whatever was that the Toyota would be sold in Japan as a Toyota and be NA. A different version (different body) with AWD would be sold as a Subaru in other markets and may or may not have FI.
Add some Subaru styling cues (aka some ugly) turbo the 2.0l or just use the STI 2.5l and you'd have plenty of WRX and STI owners wanting one. Many have wanted a 2 door Subbie for a long time.

Leave it to PD to make a smoking video of this car, wow!
That video give a good representation of the size compared to the origional A86. It looks so fluid in motion, it looks great at all angles. I take back my roof coment , this car is going to rock when it comes out.
Sure would make a nice option for a 2nd or 3rd vehicle . Nice, very nice Toyota/Subaru.

All the more reason Toyota needs this.
Who says what Toyota's next model could be? They might just leave it at this as their only sport model. They may come out with the next gen Supra to go head-to-head against the GT-R. Who's to say? It's all speculation.
I'm just going by what I've been reading for the past couple of years on the "next generation AE86" and going by what I think may be the logical move. Both you and I obviously have our own opinions of what this FT-86 concept may become. I see no point in continuing this discussion. We've laid out our thoughts, opinions and speculation. There's not much more that can be said with so little information. Hopefully, Toyota will issue more details during the Tokyo Auto Show later this month.
lets say that toyota decides to badge the car as a toyota car here in the US. now you said that toyota needs a entry lvl sports here in the US, well what is the nxt car they are suppose to go to? if lFA is being badges as a lexus at 90k+. wiht it being badge as a subbie, they can move on to the STI or WRX.
actually i see it being badge as a subbie, like most japanese magazines have said it would be for the US. i just used scion as an example for hte poster who think toyota would badge it as a subbe in japan and a toyota here in the US. i dont think he understand that subbie doesnt have a problem in japan with all the time attack freaks.

Yes toyota needs this, but not badge under toyota in the US. if any thing, only in japan so they can battle against the ex toyota fans that turned nissan fanboys .

alfy-well since they havent announced the next supra , what car does ppl have after FT8? now i am not saying they wont release the supra, since they can use LFA as the base etc.

alfy-Well i am going by japanese media, since i do watch Japanese tv, and also recieve japanese magazines. and why would toyota announce this car under a toyota badge for the japanese audience, if there plan is to release it under a subbie badge for the japanese. that makes no sense what so ever. it defeats the purpose of announcing a new car to the japanese market. they should of just had a subbie badge to begin wih.

Yah I think I am going to have to stop responding to you . Reason is, I am dealing with fanboy logic. Ppl here know that I am a huge Toyota fanboy, but if I thought like one, then yes I would agree with your post. But since I am looking at it at a business angle, your whole post doesn’t make any sense.
And that is the difference between our post. I am looking at Toyota wanting to make a profit, where you are looking at Toyota pleasing the so called Toyota fanboys in the US.
Yes there are supra fans, and thanks to Initial D, they now have AE86 fans. But like I earlier, your logic is based of fanboyism, mine is based off of Toyota making a profit.
In Japan, what car does Toyota have for young ppl after AE86 that is RWD and boosted? Nothing , now why do you think ppl in japan went with Nissan S13-14? Because it was a lot cheaper then buying a supra.
Just like keiichi tsuchiyai and a lot of had said, Toyota needs to bring back a successor to AE86 in japan. They lost to Nissan in the 90’s, because of the direction going with all FF cars.
Our driving habits differ from the US habits, here Straight line is all that matters, where there its not. When I moved to US, I never knew how much ppl really loved FF cars, where in japan, they are just looked down on.
In the US, Toyota making a huge profit off of scion, so Toyota isn’t hurting in the US. Also when you compare the AE86 fansboys in japan to the US.( I don’t think US is even 1% compared to japans what 90+%). So why would Toyota please the 1% US fanboys over the Japanese fans , who made this car what it is today?
But like Japanese publications been stating, Subbie will get the US version. Which ill trade in my mazda 3 in a heart beat for.
But yah, I think this will be my last post o this topic, because Fanboys live in a make believe world, they cant seem to grasp reality. Now I am not saying you live in that world, but your posts makes me wonder.

I may be an enthusiast, but of the old Toyota. To accuse me of being a fanboy and having that cloud my thoughts on the subject? I think that's just being spiteful.
I was looking at this from a business perspective, too, but I will admit that my education wasn't focused on business. Still, I think that Toyota could profit from badging this car as their own in the US
more than Subaru, but that's my opinion and logic.

actucally i wasnt being spiteful. i just looked at all your post, and sound like fanboy talk.
well if that is the case, then explain to me why Celica floppped in sales here in the US, cant say because it was a FF car. when ppl where buying up Intgras and Civics like candy.
which is why subbie needs this more then toyota does in the US. Subbies is not hurting in japan, because tehre is alot of time attacks freaks there.

Well we will have to wait an see, hope it doesn't turn out like the FT-HS...which never happened . I do agree with alfy28, my family loves toyota, but after all of the sports cars we discontinued, I believed that toyota set on making cars for everyone and turning a profit, and sadly thats how some companys look at it. Looks like honda is also going the same ways, they killed off any signs of making a next NSX and also discontinued the S2000. Although there are rumors of bringing the S2000, that prob. wont happen.
