Track times baby! Lets take these three cars out to buttonwillow and then we'll see who is giving who a run for the money. plenty of corners, hairpins, s turns, and sweepers, plus one straight on that track to test a car out. after we compair lap times, then u can say if the SRT-4 will give the EVO 8 or the STI a run for their money.

Seriously - at the end of the day, it's a Neon. Plain and simple.

I'm not even going to bother reading all the CRAP that is in this thread because it's seriously getting to be fanboy central here. Just learn to respect the cars for what they are. It's not like the 8 is god's gift to cars. Sure it's cool, but seriously get off your high horse, if it makes you feel better at the end of the day when you lose to an srt-4/sti/evo to say oh it was just a neon/impreza/lancer, so be it but argue and push your obviously ignorant point of view onto others is just downright childish.

Sometimes this board makes me sad to even be a fellow rx8 owner

This thread is awesome.

It starts out about how the SRT-4 might give the STi and EVO some competition in terms of performance
..
..
A unrelated statement about how all 3 are ugly
...
...
Argument ensues
...
...
A silly statement about how gosh darn easy it is to make a car as fast as the SRT-4
...
...
English lessons!
...
...
How SRT4s are just Neons, STis are just Imprezas, and Evos are just Lancers.

whoo hoo!

Personally, I'm going to reserve judgement on the SRT-4 myself since I haven't driven one. I have driven a normal Neon (rental when my car was in the body shop) and it's a pile of crap - it DOES get you to point A to point B and is cheap to buy so it does have its advantages, but really... there's better cars to get.

All I know about the SRT-4 is its looks and reported power/speed. If it does drive like a normal Neon (which it shouldn't seeing it has way more horsepower) then I wouldn't hesitate to call it crap.

And actually for the ugliness of the cars, in my opinion they're not really ugly... they just doesn't look good and they really brings to mind annoying teenage racers so I don't like them much.

no no no. I am just saying there will be aftermarket turbos. Whether mazda gets in for there slice is up to them and I don't care about that. I just think it's funny Cas thinks its sooooo easy to do, when in reality its anything but.

Just put him on ignore, I have never seen anything worth reading from his posts. His spelling is sub-par, plus he has successfully made arguments without knowing any facts. Next time he posts something just pretend he isn't there. We will be saving bandwidth for something better to read. Like reactionary's posts

let's try to keep this one on topic which is basically:
Mopar is releasing stage 3 for the SRT-4 Neon.
It'll give it 325/325 on 100 octane (race gas at that point)
and it MIGHT compete with the WRX STI and EVO. That has yet to be seen.

IMHO: Handling will kill it.

You just can't put that much power just to the front wheels and expect the car to handle.....some may say, "ya, but it will go fast in a straight line"...

....well I say good luck keeping it pointed in a straight line.

I totally agree with you there.
Ever seen a modded SRT 4 drag race? They're damn sloppy.

I would beg to differ. Let me guess your on the same page as Ike and Blue. That's cool with me. But Open your minds a little. Some manufactures don't need to put Turbo's in their cars to put up good numbers. As for the case with the S2000, G35, 350Z and RX8. I give more respect to them then I would the EVO, STi or SRT-4. It's kinda like an athletic sprinter with the natural abilities and another one that needs steroids to perform. My opinions are always subjective of course. But let me be.............. If I don't agree with something you say, I state why. Others that disagree with me on the other hand, say nothing. If you guys like the rally look, then good for you. BUT MOST DONT!

I'm not saying I'm the smartest car guy out there, but I know more then most give me credit for. There are more important things in this world than cars by the way.

I never stated that the EVO, STi and SRT-4 weren't great in the Performance category. Because I would be lying! I just don't see all the hype behind them when they look like entry level car with Steroids. Do you ever see me complain about a Porsche or Ferrari? No, because you get looks and performance with them!

This is why it got off topic just a few posts into the thread. Take someone's opinion "ugly" and turn it into a personal attack "clueless".

Cas, sorry to get off topic again, but were you the guy who thought the AT RX-8s were faster than the MT ones? Because they shifted faster and so on... Didn't you used to own an AT?

If not, I apologize...it must have been someone else.

SRT-4 is not in the same class as the EVO and STi. It's marketed toward people just getting out of highschool and college people. A souped up econo car.

Look at the advertisements for it ... "it's fast", "it's the most powerful car in it's class", "it has this kind of quarter mile time", etc. Those are the main punchlines for it.

I'm not downing the SRT-4, heck I've seen it run some tracks and IT CAN RUN THE TRACKS.

As far as 355hp in an FF, well Trial has a Celica GT-S with 400+hp for time attack and Top Secret has an Integra Type R pushing 450+hp for time attack. Understeer? Probably. But, it's in the balance and tuning. Wider tires up front, late power delivery to keep torque down when doing the slow part of "slow in, fast out", and most of all driving techniques.

I don't know much about all the technical stuff, but I think Mopar knows what they are doing, just like Top Secret and Trial (not on that level of course).

The difference is that we make a decision. I started reading this thread this morning here at work. I went to lunch and came back and it had turned to crap.

I decided that there was half way valuable information in this thread and not just to close it. I even discussed it with Zoom. I figured if we could get back on track to discussing the real topic at hand, rather than name calling and childish flaming, it might become a workable and even useful thread.

Maybe that's not true and maybe I'm giving people too much credit. I'd like to believe otherwise though.

In this case. It doesn't look that way.
