Meh, why relive the past. RX-9 or GTFO. I remember when stock 300z's, 3000GT's, Supra's, and RX-7's were almost 40k. A $40,000.00 RX-7 doesn't interest me anymore than a $35,000.00 RX-8 did. Give me Mustang performance at a Mustang price in a Mazda rotary.

YESSSSS
Sounds like they are fairly confident they've worked out most of the emissions and fuel economy issues! Also sounds like it will be a somewhat higher-end type of product.
2017...exactly when I finish residency.....I see a rotary-powered present in my future....
Also, I always thought that in the current climate, the best path is to have a high-performance but relatively high-priced RX model. Competing with 911's and so forth. Will sell fewer units, but overall will have a greater impact for mazda as a true halo car.

Wheels, not rims!!

And this. That is $40-50k worthy if the chassis is engineered as significant as the FD and RX-8 was for its hey days. Knowing Mazda, it won't be a problem.

Old news Paul, by a day..
https://www.rx8club.com/general-auto...3/#post4375535
Go Auto are saying 2015, not 2017.
Don't necessarily like the 'premium' price idea, however Mazda has to make money, which they have just started to do (reported today).
https://www.rx8club.com/general-auto...t-last-239688/
The main reason is the US currency/economy, car prices in US like Mazda Parts prices have increased..
As you know Paul, New Mazda Parts in the US has doubled in some cases over the past 4 years.
Most by 35%....so if parts go up by this amount, Mazda are taking a hit (financially) if they can't pass on this currency cost in full to new car prices.
IF and when it happens a 'premium' RX is not going to be a large seller, volume wise...
We will see..
BTW: here in OZ the 370Z is a $80K car.

well official announcement is a GOOD thing.
So semi direct injection, 16X engine.
I bet it will be hard for the aftermarket to boost this.......
500rwhp will be the norm for performance cars by that time--thats another 5 years!!
Too far ahead for me --hell i will be almost 70 yrs old
fail.
If they dont boost it --it will not compare as to what will be out there.
Flame suit on

Rotary Frontier
Can't wait, I'll be sure to get one regardless of the price. Just thinking about this makes me want to drive my 8 across town. I hope the design of the car will be similar to the FD, wonder if Mazda is gonna consider the 16X rotary for this one. Just have to wait and see

I think they will more than likely use the 16X for this one should be better then the current rotary engines (hopefully) in all aspects.
I hope it has styling cues from the FC,FD, and FE just a big mix but staying really slick, and sporty.
they say 300HP but personally I think thats not good enough if it will be priced higher than a 370Z it should have closer to the 350+hp (380hp+1260kg would be AWESOME) mark, they are probably going to be approaching BMW,porsche prices so the power needs to be there this time around!!! also its suppose to release 2017 by then who knows BRZ may come turbo with 300+HP new sti, new evo, new Z car, etc. not mention the American, and EUDM cars as well.
Hopefully they will learn from past mistakes and do things better this time, dont get me wrong I love my RX8 but the next RX car needs to be that little monster that everyone knows about but only few have.
