Radar Detectors

I was thinking about investing in one since i do a lot of night time traveling and i tend to speed. I was wondering how effective these are: will it catch EVERY cop around me or will it only get the ones sitting on the side pointing their speed guns?

Also if anyone knows, which brand is the best? (price/how well it works)

Breaker Breaker
Radar detectors are kind of interesting - in a city area they can pick up odd beeps from banks sending messages and other odd electronics - out in the country they can tell you if you are being hit - line of sight by radar - but you might not have enough time to slow down and some cops really really enjoy catching speeders with Radar - you might get a truck-radio instead for long interstate tours - they will usually let you know about speed traps - except sometimes when a police officer is using that system to lure speeders into his web of tears....

they do work - saved me several times . If you are 20km/hr over the limit you have time to brake - if more than that it will take more than a detector to save you.
I have a V1

I have a Rocky Mountain Radar detector with jammer and the warrenty is if you get a ticket the company will pay it. I have had it for over a couple of years now and never been pulled over and detects from far distances.

They're illegal in Virginia. The state cops love busting people for them. I talked to one and he explained how easy it is. Driving an unmarked car, he pulls in behind a group of cars exceeding the speed limit. Then he blips his radar, and whoever touches their brakes gets pulled over.

So he never actually confirms the speed? That's why I always contest tickets.

The speed isn't the point. They're pulled over for the illegal use of a radar detector.

That's pretty dirty.
Probably why I prefer 68 East via MD.

Wow, another person who got scammed out of their hard earned money.

Nothing by RMR or Rocky Mountain Radar will jam laser or radar and their radar detection sucks.

Here are some videos of all RMR products not jamming anything:

I was under the impression that an actual radar jammer would be illegal anyway, as it's an unlicensed transmitter?

"Are Radar Jammers Legal?

In the US, Federal Law bans the use of Radar Jammers. Their use is considered "malicious interference" which is prohibited by the Communications Act of 1934."

Ol1i3x, I just recently received my Beltronics RX-65 and love it. I did do alot of research and made my own decision based on features and performance. Some useful sites...

http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=9090
http://www.radarbusters.com/support/...ts/Default.asp

The later is very well executed, and informative. I have collegues at my work who, one of them has 2 Dodge Vipers and the other has 2 Ford Mustang Cobra's and they both swear by Valentine 1. Bel RX-65, Escort 8500 and Valentine 1 are all very good choices from the research I did. It all comes down to what you like to look at and what features you want.

So far I love the voice features and the multiple threat notifications on the RX-65, don't have to look at the arrows that are patented by Valentine 1. Also, Valentine 1 is pretty much single source so you are going to pay what they want you to pay which is around $400 US. The price is the only downside I saw to the Valentine 1, other than it is hit or miss as to whether you get the appropriate firmware that allows for POP1 and POP2 detection.

I got my RX-65 from http://focuscamera.com/prods/964601471.asp for about $254 delivered.

So make your own decision and be happy, seems you really can't go wrong with any of the three detectors.

Hope this helps...

sorry to extend this but i read the reviews on the latter site and basically its implying the RX65 is the best, but by the looks of it real people (forums, people i talk to, etc) put the v1 in higher respect. what benefits does the rx have over the v1? (v1 has the cool buttons too!)
