I know a couple of you guys switched over the Evo X and I had some questions..
I'm looking at getting on in the next couple months-end of the year, going towards the MR for now unless I hate the DSG or whatever they call their version.
Here are some of my concerns:
Turbo lag - how bad is it? I had a 2002 WRX before this and I hated it, driving in traffic was a chore to say the least.
There is no turbo lag, the turbo is twin scroll and it isn't the size of a GT45r so it won't have any lag.
AC - does turning it on kill all power pretty much?
Don't notice AC killing power at all...I blast it on and pull stis for breakfast
Transmission feel - both GSR and MR.. How does it handle going slow? Bucking? Massive engine bog?
MR DSG has to "learn" your driving style and since it's like the DSG, it isn't perfect. I'd go GSR and grab the 5 spd...Dont whine about traffic, I drive in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Handling - how 'connected' do you feel vs. the RX8? I know they have ridiculous amounts of grip, but grip and handling aren't the same thing. I do a fair amount of canyon driving and would like still have some fun doing that..
I feel every damn bump on the road, and trust me, you'd have to be a retard to spin the car out. AWD + S-AWC = drive like a pro with 2 fingers.
Seats - Any funkiness like circulation getting cut off/etc? I seem to have that issue in the RX on long drive. (I'm 5-10 if that makes a difference)
I guess my main concern is how does it handle when you're in stop/go traffic and not going all out and how does the manual compare to the manual in the 8.
The 8 doesn't have the smoothest tranny either, so both can't be compared to..say an S2k in terms of "smooth" shifting. The Evo has a beefy 5 spd though, they actually reinforced it from the previous gens. It's a 5 speed, so on the highway it may drone IF you get a loud exhaust like me. I'm at 330WHP/330WTQ and the tranny is still strong.
Any other things that annoy you or make you regret getting rid of the RX8?

I wish the lip spoiler was available on the non-touring version though and that they would bring back the old momo wheel.

Azn, any meets coming up that you know of? Would be good to see some modded rides and meet some owners and what not.

I think I'm the only one that had a bad experience with South Coast when I was buying my car. I ended up getting it even cheaper than South Coast here at Capital Mitsu.

I hear the EvoX dual-clutch SMG is one of the best on the market. I was reading about it in R&T when the EvoX came out- some old grizzled Japanese racing driver who looked like he fell out of a Samurai movie said he was sad because now the car could truly do what humans cannot or something similarly zen-sounding.

Went down and saw the R3 at Galpin. Pretty sweet, love the seats and overall interior, it feels like a whole different car. Drove a regular sport, which seemed pretty good, not crazy about the new transmission. 5th gear feels 'far away' and the clutch is super light. But I guess you could get used to that. Gonna be a tough choice between the R3 and Evo though.

I am just curious as to what your decision was. I really loved the hell out of my evo IX man. It took mods well and me doing all the tuning myself improved the power well.
I did a lot of canyon runs in the car and it was a blast. The new chassis on the X is better than the IX. The new engine also has a lot of stock advantages over the old 4G.

Ended up decided to keep the 8 until it dies. It was already paid off, and the idea of spending 20k+ (after selling my 8) on another car just didn't make sense.
