The nervousness in handling near the limit is also documented in several magazines. I said the C6 chasis as a whole, not just the Z06.

throw the Z06 into a corner, and there’s a split-second hesitation between steering input and the chassis obeying your command…a trait that’s been lessened in successive generations of Corvettes, but not entirely eliminated.-road and track

It's uncomfortable, though, with sharp bumps in mid-turn, resulting in steering kickback and a little sideways bobble that saps confidence and throws your rhythm. The same wouldn't happen in a Ferrari F430 or Ford GT, two lofty targets to which the Z06 aspires.

Several of us had driven earlier Z06s at other tracks, where we’d been unnerved by at-the-limit high-speed twitchiness. - Car and Driver
Here's the full C&D quote:

To our surprise and delight, this Z06 took to the track with real assurance, braking deep into turns with no sign of instability and rocketing out of them on a tsunami of torque — slightly sideways, if necessary. The faintly numb roadgoing mien turned into much clearer feedback during high-intensity lapping, despite the relatively light, quick steering. And although the shifter has comparatively long throws, it did nothing to impede coordination or obstruct our attempts to run fast laps.

We were so surprised by the Z06’s friendly handling that we contacted Tadge Juechter, the vehicle chief engineer for the Corvette, and he told us that, for 2007, the Z06’s shock-damping rates have been trimmed back a little since Jan Magnussen’s epic seven-minute, 43-second lap of the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife, making the car less jumpy at the limit. Bottom line, says Juechter: The car has gotten better.
I remember reading several other reviews of the '07+ Z06 that have mentioned its more stable handling (including Car and Driver's Lightning Lap comparison) when compared to the original version. I can't wait to see a comparison between the Z06 and the GTR, I think the cars are going to be very evenly matched despite the GTR's porky weight.

thats good to know, i didnt know they already made changes to the z06 after only 1 year. eitherway, just showing that complaint about the nervousness at the limit is not made up out of thin air. it was documented across many publications.

Very true. I think that GM heard all of these complaints and adjusted the car quickly to keep people happy. Now, I wonder if the new calibration helped or hurt performance given a driver who spends enough time with the original Z06 to get used to its twitchiness...

Aftermarket hood and the only real design flaw is removed. If it hits the predicted numbers does it really matter if those other cars handle a bit better when they're not even close to the 100k price?

Good thing they've got brakes on there that take up a 3rd of the rotor to stop that beast.

The z06's time is lower because when Chevy brought the car to the ring, all they wanted to do was beat the current porsches best time, and they did that in only 4 laps. Compare that to the gtr which took hundreds if not thousands of laps to achieve the current 7:38 time and one can realize the z06 is capable of a much quicker time then the 7:42. Chevy should bring an 07 or 08 z06 to the ring with the handling improvements and obliterate the 7:38 time but they'll probably wait and do it with the Zr1.

Just waiting to see what the aftermarket will do for it.
headers, pullies, a light cam, some tuning... this thing is going to put down some serious numbers. They already have forged pieces in the block, and they chose the LS3 6.2L block because the LS7 427ci has thinner cylinder walls. I bet this engine will handle GOBS of boost, kind of like the 03-04 4.6L Cobra engine or the 2JZ-GTE.

I think it's good enough out of the box. No need to modify.

Im not completely sold on the looks, but it wont matter, cause If I ever pull up next to one, it will be gone! haha.

That car will be a monster, already pushing 600hp.. Like YaXmAnGTO said, a few more things, & you wont be able to buy tires quick enough.

That's what I was thinking. It would be gone before I could finish saying "WTF - that hood is ugly!"
