What I don't understand about this thread is how everyone keeps talking about how "ugly" the old EVO's are. Isn't this thread supposed to be about the next generation? Who cares what the older models look like. I think the next gen looks siiiiick. It looks like a supped up version of the current Lancer (which it is supposed to), and even the current Lancer looks badass.

I like the look of the Evo's. They look bulky and powerful. Too bad the car's safety rating isn't that high....

My hopes are that with Mitsubishi probably making the next ralliart version of the lancer AWD and turbocharged, this will let them make the EVO the focused car that it should be.

I'll tell you what rocks, being able to sell my Evo for about what I paid for it almost two years and 20k miles ago. I'll take the best resale value in the industry over resale values that drop like a rock any day.
I wouldn't drive a plain and ugly car, even if it increased in value with age.

As my next car i am also considering the EVO X , in the looks department it may not win the race but if it drives and handles as good as the figures suggest it seems best value car around per performance .

Take a look at the features on this car awesome

Why cant Mazda give us a Dual clutch gear box , instead of the very ordinary Automatics 4 or 6 speed

Ahhh, you still don't get it. I don't think my car is plain or ugly, I happen to like the way it looks as do many others. Even if no one else liked the way it looked I could care less, I buy cars for me. In addition, FOR ME, function (performance + practicality) will always take precedence over form when it comes to cars.

This was noticed a while back. The general consensus was that it allows for fastar drifting!1!!!

I guess we'll see what it'll really be sporting in October at the Tokyo Auto Show. It could have Mr. Potato Head as a steering wheel for all I care as long as it has launch control and lets me pwn n00bs on command! Haha, just kidding (but not really).

That is an Advan Neova AD07 on the left side of the car and I can almost guarantee you that's what the car will come with. The other tire was just some strange mistake.

alright...experience i had this afternoon after coming home from practice... getting on the highway i saw a white car that looked similar to the current WRX (i only saw the back of the car) it was more rounded, rounded tail lights, single exhuast, no diffuser on the back. as i got closer i saw it said "Lancer" on the back and had the little red icon underneath the lancer name. it said O.Z. racing blah blah (didnt see/remember the rest) the back end looked nothing like any of the old versions of the evo. I would have gotten a closer look but this thing was quick! even on the onramp i couldnt catch up...he must have accelerated to 90 by the time we got to the actual highway...i didnt dare go that fast b/c of my knowledge of the area and the cop speed trap zones....

any idea on this? am i crazy...its too bad i couldnt flip out my cellphone and take a pic

With the right mods a Ralliart could outrun an RX-8 while still NA. Even stock if he catches you in the wrong gear, you're not totally on it, or was just braver than you it could give you some problems. They're not fast by any means but quicker than some people realize. There are also some turbo kits avilable that can make them trap about 110mph in the 1/4 which would have no problem disposing of an RX-8 (and most other cars) quickly.

I do not know if any of you have seen the new Lancer in the "flesh"?..
I followed one here for some distance this week (looked like a base sedan, silver with black tape over the badges). Mitsubishi Australia is just down the road from me.
The car is a lot smaller looking, if fact its predecessor was next to it in another lane..it is considerably smaller looking.
The rear tail lights look like a tacked on afterthought..just too high..the rear is very "Alfa romeo" ish.
From the side it looks only marginally larger than a Mazda 3 if any larger at all.
The front, up close it looks F Ugly IMO. But better from a distance.
The dynamics of this car will have to be great otherwise I see its success no better than the existing model.
It looks like a "box" on wheels.
Cant report on interior, dash cluster looks like what is already posted.
Very disappointing.

Michael,
Wait to you see the new Lancer...see my post above, one was being driven down South Road, Lonsdale.

It really is no larger than a Mazda 3.

The Evo's dynamics will have to be Awesome..

You seem to be implying "Alfa Romeoish" is a bad thing. They only have some of theo most highly thought of designs in automotive history...

It's not supposed to be a large car, it's upposed to be a small sedan (it always has been) so I don't know what your point is with that one.

When has an Evo ever not had great driving dynamics? You also seem to be implying that the current and past Evos weren't a success. Mitsubishi has always managed to sell all the Evos they send to dealers and they do so without having to discount them. Evos have also always been regarded as some of the best drivers cars in the world and the best performance cars for the money. Seems pretty successful to me...

Lastly, why are you judging the Evo based on following around a base Lancer for a little while? The Evo has never had much in common with the Lancer and this current model will be no different.

I've seen one or two on the road and at car shows. The tail lights and the whole rear does look odd to me especially on the base Lancer, but also on the Evo. Remember, the Lancer is a economy sedan and given that it looks great. The Mazda 3 is the only other car in that category that doesn't scream utter boredom.

From what I read a week or so ago, all of America is selling out of the GTS model of the Lancer. That seems like a pretty good early indication of at least moderate success.

And again, this thread is about the Evo. Much to the dismay of the idiots out there, the Evo isn't just a Lancer with a turbo.

DEFEND ,DEFEND,DEFEND....HOW PREDICABLE FROM THE DYNAMIC DUO..
Without you putting words into my mouth so to speak,
I never said there was or implying there was anything wrong with Alfa..did I?..
Did I say it was supposed to be a large car...no.., but it is a lot smaller than the previous LANCER in the flesh.
YOU are making the assumption that the new Evo WILL be as good as the olds, without driving or evaluating one.
Just to remember ALL Evo's are born from the Lancer, NOT the other way around.

It will perform better. Successive generations always do and always have. That's why they call it an "Evolution". Do you think Mitsubishi would release an Evo X that was a step backwards in terms of performance? I'm not saying that I'm drinking the Evo X kool-aid yet, but I'd bet my right arm it will be faster around the "Ring" than an VIII or IX. No?

The new EVO looks are definitely tolerable and Mitsubishi will win some new customers with them (though not me), especially with their performance numbers. You can't call the EVO X ugly, they have done a much better job this time.

I know everyone reads Autoblog, but I thought I'd post this anyways. C&D did a preview test of the JDM Evo X 5-speed.

Main point of interest is that it's 0.4 seconds slower than the old MR. They do however imply that the twin clutch version will in fact have launch control.
