Ruptured pipes 'could jeopardise' Canadian Grand Prix

The Canadian Grand Prix is believed to be facing a problem in the form of old water pipes, located beneath the partly-street Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve. The Montreal race is set to make a return to the calendar in the middle of next month after a year off in 2009.

I hope at the very least they give Schumacher back 7th place and a jesture of "oops we the FIA are dumb.... as always". I think the pass on Alonso was a fair one and now the FIA admit it is a grey area. I think thats reason enough for atleast a pardon for schumacher if not awarding him back his 6th place.

They cannot do that and should not. Once a rule, albeit dumb, has been set up it has to be followed. Schumacher will end up 12th and now everyone knows how it works. It was simply bad luck that Schumacher was the one who got to suffer for it.

Well this will be the first ever for him... He has been the luckiest SOB in F1's history.

And I do agree that the rule had a "grey area" and it needs to be clarified, similar to the difussers last year... remember?

Acording to the rules, no racing if the safety car is still in the last lap. Of course, Schumi as we all know still thinks he could get away with it, like he did multiple times in the past and I am glad Hill is the one that made the decision... Mr Hill, you have my admiration

Yes I remember that. And it was appealed to FIA and was legalized. In 2011 it will be forbidden to decrease the wake after a car. Should have been forbidden already 2010 but FIA is not the fastest pony on the race track.

That is the weird part about you Polo, you take truth and twist it. Schumi was ordered to race. Obviously you want to go to the limit of regulations to get an upper hand and I am well aware of some of Schumachers ugly things in the past, but seriously those things are irrelevant here. This was clear as crystal, almost all the teams ordered their drivers to race to the finish line. I am quite certain that Ferrari told Alonso to defend like hell, considering the sliding he did out of the two last turns, otherwise why did he not drive calmly? That Ferrari afterwards said "they knew it was forbidden" well thats just an after construction and the obvious outwards stance they had to take since Alonso was indeed passed.

As for Hill having a say in this. Hill is helping the stewards to reach a conclusion. He is not some form of final arbiter to say whether or not the stewards are correct. And he will also have to follow the rules. He did not decide to penalize Schumi, he together with the stewards interpreted the rules, thats all. Don't make more out of it that it is.

And the same goes for all idiots who sent hate mail to Hill. They are thinking the same way that it is his fault that Schumacher got demoted to 12th. It is the fault of unclear rules and nothing else...

Ah Ferrari being full of themselves as always:

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has again spoken of his unease over the quality of some of the team competing in this season's Formula One Championship.

Earlier this year he remarked that some of the teams would be better off in a "Formula Three competition" and now he had said "this year there are many teams that should be racing in GP2."

Montezemolo added: "In the 60th year of formula one, Ferrari is celebrating its 800th grand prix. Let me say with pride that no one will be able to match this record.

"For us it is a source of great satisfaction and pride because it represents Ferrari has been here even in difficult times, while other teams have come and have gone. I repeat that formula one without Ferrari is not Formula One."


Well he is entitled to his opinion, however as long as it is the most technological cars in the world driven by the best drivers in the world I am happy to call it F1. With or without Ferrari. With or without McLaren.

But noooo, of course it cannot be as good without Ferrari. That kind of attitude disgusts me really. But of course, being humble isn't a part of Ferrari, in any way.

There was, at one time at least, a rule that you had to be within a certain percentage of the fastest cars time to qualify for the race. There was one team (Minardi ?) that used to have at least one car that couldn't go fast enough to make the grid. Is this rule still in force? If so, then these new teams aren't that slow.

The 107% rule is not in effect anymore. I don't know when it was removed but it is removed. However, all the new teams have managed to pass this limit on several (if not all) races so far. So no they are not that slow.

However, GP2 is very competetive nowdays. The GP2 cars are only a few (7-9) seconds slower than F1 cars per lap. The technology is vastly inferior but the regulations permit more allowing the GP2 cars to go fast with inferior technology.

The HRT car is pretty much on par pace-wise with a GP2 car (slightly faster perhaps). But it does conform to F1 spec though obviously . It would have been hilarious if Dallara would have given HRT a GP2 car saying: here race with this

But what I am trying to say is that the new teams are doing good and all would make it to the grid with the 107% rule intact. It is just that F1 has been so close for years that the drivers have grown unused to (or never experienced) slower cars, and thus there is so much barking about the new teams.

Well i disagree with you Persmit. I believe ferrari is right,
F1 wouldn’t be F1 if they didn’t have a team (Ferrari) who has engine failures and also supply engines to another team that is having engine failures. So I give him props for stating that. Because I wouldn’t be here making fun of them. So keep doing your thing Ferrari, which is being a *******.

Jersey City's rejection of U.S. Grand Prix may benefit the Catskills

Jersey City said it did not want the United States Grand Prix and its Formula 1 race cars on a proposed race track at Liberty State Park. So, the Montiecello Motor Club in Upstate New York is jumping at the chance to host the grand prix at the foot of the Catskill Mountains, according to Auto Week.

Pirelli in pole for 2011 F1 tyre supply - report (and more)

A meeting of the Technical Working Group did not result in a decision about F1's tyre supplier for 2011.

Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, however, reports that Pirelli has moved into pole position for the contract, even though recent rumours suggested both the Italian marque and Michelin were offering to supply tyres for 1.5m euros per team.

Earlier this week, representatives of Pirelli met with F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the technical directors' meeting, it emerges that the new tyre supplier and the ban on double diffusers will not be the only technical changes for 2011.

The magazine said the main area of attention, apart from the return of KERS, is aerodynamics. Pending the approval of the FIA, the bodywork ahead of the sidepods, and the flow aids under the chassis, are to disappear.

It is also expected that the front wings will be smaller, while the front wing adjustors could be replaced by adjustable rear wings.

Pirelli is more likely to get the contract over Michelin. Michelin wants to move F1 to use 18" wheels. Pirelli would continue to use the current 13". (How are wheels measured in Europe, english or metric?)

Massa's manager in talks with other teams - report

Serious talks about the extension of Felipe Massa's Ferrari contract have begun, according to Finland's Turun Sanomat.

But the newspaper also reports that Brazilian Massa's manager Nicolas Todt has held exploratory talks with other Formula One teams -- perhaps Renault.

I am actually against more city races. The overtaking possibilities are always more limited there than on a regular circuit. Lets be honest, Monaco is boring as hell to watch. The excitement is based in the pit stops and strategies.

It is probably fun like crazy to drive down those streets that fast.

I hope they schedule the race for the spring or fall. Otherwise it will be too hot & humid for drivers and spectators. It's 90F/32C in Chicago now.
