Exactly what part of it resembles an RX-8, it has 4 wheels?

I meant that they tried to package a lot of the same features (18" wheels, upgraded stereo, shot for 250hp as a target for the 3.8L V6, 6-spd) ... I wasn't implying at all that they look the same because the Eclipse looks like a baboon's ****, and the RX-8 looks well... awesome.

I know the items I mentioned are and should be pretty standard fare in this class, but I am sure the vehicle development team at Mitsu had the Z and the 8 squarely in their sights when they were making decisions on this car.

Doubt it, this car will probably sell more than the 350Z and RX-8 combined. I think all they had in their sights was recapturing some of the past glory of the Eclipse and trying to help a struggling company. I don't think they are looking at the RX-8 and the Z as their competition, it's more like the RSX Type S, Chevy Cobalt, Saturn Ion, Solara, etc. I will agree that the rear looks rather 350Z influenced, which was influenced by the TT IMO.

Everyone seems to think this car will be very quick. Does anyone know how much it weighs?

I love the concept and wonder why they could not just take out the electric part and leave it the same. I have been going back and forth on the production model. One day I like it and the next day I do not. I think I'll have to see one in person to make a final judgement but I'm sure I'll test drive one no matter what. I think my main gripe just from looking at the pictures is that it needs bigger (would it be 19") wheels? Does anyone know the pricing on these things? I do agree with the person who said this should force Mazdas hand to give the 8 more power, but I wonder at what cost? I have a bad feeling if the 8 gets supercharged with a body kit similar to the one on the cover of the Speed magazine, we will be looking at around 275-300HP, but also a price tag of around $40,000. That will be a tough sell, especially with the MPG issues.

Although I didn't like it at first I've seen more pictures of it and in some shots it looks okay.

the original concept was very nice. it boasted electric hybrid assisted power. this newest photo is kind of bland compared to the first concept. the design was intended to invoke styling cues from the second gen (which i think was the best looking). it is remarkably similar the the third gen probe aka mercury cougar. i don't believe that was the intentions but it can't be denied. i will wait until the production version before i decide whether or not i like it.

260 hp for a 3500 lb car is not that impressive. This car doesn't interest me in the least without all wheel drive and a turbo.

i would actually consider doing that. buy an eclipse for 10g's or less and put the reamining money into mods on the car.
