That's the pic I was looking for. That concept is hot. It needed to be tamed down a bit for production but what the hell happened? Obviously their designers can make a nice ride. Who the heck screwed up the production version? I wonder what the Eclipse forums are saying about this trainwreck

 

All I know is that the guy who designed the concept was on monster garage once, cool guy. I really liked the concept, specifically a 3/4 view where you can see the big wheel overhangs on the rear,

 

FMVSS108 says dual beam headlights are illegal. If you read it correctly. The only semi acceptable dual beams are the European H4s because the shield under the low filament effectively makes two different reflectors (beam distributions) in one housing. Good low beams & good high beams with low glare.

Are they using this or 9007? Which is a big piece of sh*t crap low beams, very crappy high beams, and worse glare than HID headlights.

Is the reverse lights in the middle of the tailights? Is that a ring of LEDs? That is very tacky. They should have mounted them flanking the number plate, like the old one. and kept the ring of LEDs and put the brake light in the center (positively signalling)


Why not put the 6 speed manual & five speed automatic where it will be best used, on the volume 4 cylinder cars.
Does the V6 have an open differential?

 

It's a damn shame, fix up the headlight area on the concept by getting rid of all that grey crap and you have a winner.

 

It looks allright. If it doesn't weigh too much it could be stomping on RX-8's in the quarter mile...

it's not horrendous, I think mitubishi's new "face" is ugly though. they'll never have an eclipse that sold like the 95-99 one

 

I think the factor that will make or break this car in terms of credibility is going to be FWD, RWD, or AWD

 

I think the designers seriously must be coming from Pontiac... it looks just as crappy as the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix and the new G6... and what's with the triple windows on the side, with the mirror between the first two? If this doesn't kill Mitsubishi altogether, it will at least kill the Eclipse for good. Even the first gen Eclipse looked better than this.

 

Yeah that car looked like a mini-Supra. I think that's what Mitsubishi was getting at. Personally, I hate that iteration too, even before that Jolly Rancher green one in F&F. Bring back the Starion.

 

I just read on the 4g Eclipse forums that it is FWD which makes that car = teh lose!

The wide rear fenders on the concept flow nicely with the rest of the car, but on the production model they just look way out of place. Take them in 1.5 inches and fix the rear defuser and I'd call it a winner. Maybe not the best looking car, but a huge improvement on the outgoing model.

 

It's not only you. "Ford Cougar" was my first thought, "Opel Tigra" (probably unknown in the states) was the second one. ...

 

ugly - but at least the new version won't have so many of the same 'lines' as an RX8.

 

If that is true, I predict mitsubishi going out of business, maybe not that extreme but, that would be such a stupid thing to do.

 

Fix the nose, get rid of the FWD and McStrut, throw in a limited slip and I might consider it. I had a 2000 Eclipse GT and the only thing good about that car was the engine.

I think it looks pretty good but kinda dated already, maybe it's just me. It looks like a little bit of the current Eclipse with more of the previous one. But, sad to say, it might be faster than our RX8. I don't know if it will be AWD or FWD, but either way it sucks another car is messing with our 8.

BUT I STILL LOVE MY 8 EITHER WAY!!!!

Well, with 260 (depending on weight)HP, it probably will be faster (FWD) but what do you mean by "much" faster? .5 sec or more?
