Yeah, you're probably right, a guy with a hairstyle like this, probably isn't going to like an intelligent person driving a technologically advanced car.

Can someone paste a pic of that mullet guy leaning up against an 8? That would be hillarious.

Aw, what the hell. I'm wasting time today at work.

Here's my not too bad, not too good Photoshop rendition starring my own Lightning Yellow RX-8.

They wouldn't own an 8 because it's so freaking SLOW.

Advanced......braahahhahhaaaaa.... that's a good one.

Name some advancements the rx-8 has that the new 05 gt does not have?

ability to flood at a moments notice? MPG comparable to a car with 2x the power?

Hahaha. Well, those holes in the sun visor are pretty cool. And the plastic inserts on the leather seats.

Ya know, you've gotta love a car with a live rear axle these days. That is absolutely the latest, greatest tech to have. I hear all them Nascar cars use that. Man, what will they think of next?

Funny, Speed-ER, I've had mine for 8 months and 6000 miles, I just drive it like a regular car, and I live in a cold climate. No flooding.

Remind me to ask you about your rattles, shakes and quivers when your FORD (Acronym for Fucked Over Rebuilt Dodge, giver of birth to such fine automotive specimens as the Grenada, Fairmont, Escort and Crown Vic) has 60,000 miles on it.

Oh yeah, and the resale value. Just gotta be fantastic when Hertz buys 100,000 of these for their rental fleet and then dumps them all into the used car market. Are they GTs? No. But the GT, in the eyes of the used car market isn't a distinctively different car - just an option set and a motor option. It adds some value, but with the overall price so badly depressed, not much help for it.

Oh, I shouldn't mentioned "depressed" to someone who drives one of those.

So glad that Mazda's parent company has decided to stay the hell out of the daily operations there.

Toodles!

A 05' GT Mustang driver has no room talking about reliability, the new GT's are going threw cylinder heads faster than a fat kid can threw a bag of candy corn I would rather put up with flooding :o . Besides speed in a strait line & MPG, the mustang don't have **** on the 8, don't get me wrong a Mustang is a cool car if your goal is to be like every one els .

Mustang= Apples

RX-8 = Oranges

wha?? :vomit: Nascar is NOT the bastian of Technological Advancement....they can only make thier cars do 'right turns' once a year.

o re: Better cars?

Some people simply cannot fathom not having the 'best' car. For them, enjoying their car isn't enough. They fear another car may be better. God Forbid their car be 2nd best, or 4th best. They are not automotive enthusiasts; they are immature in their appreciation of the sport.

...but skidpad rating is not a good indication of how one car can handle, thus shouldn't be factored into the equasion when speaking of handling.

Yeah, you are sooooo different. I mean you drive a mass produced vehicle, damn that takes ***** to go out on a limb like that. I mean they sold 100,000 in only 18 months. It is such a unique car.

Some people like speed in straight line, some people like value, some people like good mileage. Believe it or not, the Mustang can turn, maybe not as well as the 8, but well enough for most people. It might not be good for you because you're at the track every weekend getting the most out of that handling the 8 posseses, but the average joe won't mind trading the handling for some power.

Theres a great one for the stats. 8 entire months without flooding. OK then, I have had my Mach1 for 10 months and 12,000.00 miles with no problems therefore I can't see how any will develope now? That would be impossible. :D

So you back it out of the garage and shut it down, wash it, then pull it back in and immediatly shut it down cold every time? Just need to know, it's a pain to let my wifes car warm up 10 minutes every time I move it to clean up.

Guess I'm not the average Joe.

What I like:

1) Handling and balance: Stunning

2) Power: more than enough for my needs. I'm not an idiot street racer.

3) Braking: Incredible

4) Agility: Fantastic

I'm not saying the Mustang is a bad car. I rent and abuse them frequently from Hertz. In fact, I've got one rented for my business trip on Thursday to Dallas. I'm interested in driving the new one. Love switching off that traction control and doing a smokey burnout in a parking garage with tires that aren't my own.

What I am saying is I'll never own one again. I had an '84 Mustang GT for 6 months. Now, before you get on me about "how can you compare then to now", I'll just say that after 6 months, what I loved was the raw power and I hated everything else about it. I traded it on a 1985 Mazda RX-7.

Every time I rent one from Hertz and even the V8 versions that I can get occasionally, it's exactly the same story. It's fun for a bit, but then the lack of ergonomics, the comparatively crappy handling (PRAY you never catch a bump in the pavement in mid turn when the suspension is loaded up - ditch, meet car. Car, meet ditch.), the lack of refinement, and the general "Fordyness" of the damn things catch up with them. You can put power into the Mustang, but you'll never take out the Ford.

Not a car for me. But the RX-8 is.

Private to DMP: You apparently missed the sarcasm in my comment on live rear axles being the epitomy of technology. That was entirely the point. NASCAR cars run CARBURETORS for God's sake! My one hope for the Mustang being a better, more refined car was dashed when I found out it still has a goddamned live rear axle. What the hell is Ford thinking? Oh yeah. That's right, it's the beancounters that run the company, not the car guys. I say it again, thank God they leave Mazda alone. Ditto with Volvo.

The car certainly isn't for everybody, but it certainly isn't only for guys with mullets. When was the last time you went to the track? I guarantee you are not using the 8's handling potential on the streeet, that would be just as bad as those "idiot street racers"

If I had to choose a performance car, yes, I would choose the 8 for all the reasons you mentioned, but I would also be going to the track every other weekend. If all I was doing was tooling around town, I would look harder at the mustang.

Take what I'm saying in the best light - not trying to flame, so I'll apologize in advance:

You could have left things be after the period, but your inflamatory follow-on implies those who WANT more power, or HAVE more power must be 'idiot street-racers'. Not cool. Not even 'grown up' sounding.

Love switching off that traction control and doing a smokey burnout in a parking garage with tires that aren't my own.
So you aren't a street racer, because that's idiotic, yet you willfully abuse a car that isn't yours? I wonder if somebody who knows you will read that, and ask Hertz to 'not' rent to you. Your actions in a parking garage is both idiotic and I'd wager, illegal. Destruction/Defacing Private Property maybe? Both the garage floor, AND the tires which don't belong to you.

What I am saying is I'll never own one again. I had an '84 Mustang GT for 6 months. Now, before you get on me about "how can you compare then to now",
But that's exactly the point - an 84 MGT is an Apple, while an 05 MGT is an orange.

There ya go - that's better; you listed specific things you disliked about the Mustangs you've driven. Maybe they didn't feel refined because people like you beat the **** out of them? I wonder what a Hertz-owned RX8 would be like after a few thousand miles?

I'm canadian thanks
Something some of you 'car enthusiasts' need to do is learn to appreciate other cars for what they are and who they are for. This site is just as bad as SRT4 forums for all the nonsense about how crappy other cars are compared to it.
