I think the Mustang has the advantage in the straight, but the RX 8 would diffenitly make up some group in the turn and baking. The RX8 is clearly the better sport car, plus it has for door and has more room in the back than the ford. What do you guys think?

Mustangs are cool cars...they're like the cheap girl that you hooked up with at a bar for a one night stand, for cheap thrills and animal sex....not very refined, but they make you feel like you've got a big d!ck. I think it's similar to the SRT-4, but better in that it's RWD, and a true sports car rather than an economy car.

The RX-8 is like the sexy sophisticated woman who is good at everything she does, and does it in a classy way. However, it takes more of a man to know how to handle this kind of woman and get good results...

Sorry if I offended any women here, but I look at cars alot like personalities of women...

I didn't know the RX-8 could bake... Had I known I would have bought one long ago, I loves me some chocolate chip cookies!


Seriously though, Mustangs have been about going fast in a straight line for a long time, and in that department it puts the RX-8 to shame. It doesn't handle bad and if you want to go fast for cheap and like the growl of a big V8 it's a great car.

On a road with plenty of curves ok, depending on if the Mustang driver really knows what he is doing. Car and driver pulled .88g but that was on a 300ft skid pad. Just don't try to run one on the highway or from light to light. I prefer both cars. :)

With all the under-hood heat of this car, I'm sure it's a great candidate for some car-b-que cooking! Perhaps some "manifold meatloaf"? Or "Catalyst Casserole?"

Hell, you can keep coffee hot in the cupholders. Even if it started out as an iced skim latte from Starbucks!

That is one of the funniest things I have read in a long time - I wonder if we will ever see that in one of their advertising campaigns?

The 05 Mustang is an AWESOME car - for the $$ it performs QUITE well. :)

I've seen RX8 skidpad numbers as high as .91. Having said that, Skidpad ratings are useless when talking 'handling' - those numbers are a function of tires and surface.

I remember a test tween the RX8, G35? or 350z, vs the 04 Mustang Cobra. The Cobra beat BOTH the other cars' lap times by a good margin...the 05 mustang handles even better. The Next Cobra mustang? Watch out. It'll be a solid performer.

Why I didn't buy the 05 Mustang?

Very True! I suspect that the prominence of "skidpad" numbers has emerged largely as an effort to quantify the "doughnut" experience, much as 0-60 times are the quantification of the "stoplight drag" experience. Neither says much about the driving experience as a whole.

I hate the new mustang look and have always found the interior sub-par, but the new model is quite the nice handling car. Dont knock it till ya try it! I was very suprised at it. Just wished the interior wasnt so cheap and the outside wasnt quite the way it is.

One reason that I did not consider the Mustang was due to the fact of its cookie cutter image. I want more inviduality in what I drive.

thers one guy in my school with one, and his always reving at everyone, he cut me off the other day, and man i wished i took em, but i knew better =) plus it was automatic, .........now are those numbers from an Automatic or Stick stang?

05' Mustang = "Muscle Car"

RX-8 = "Sports Car"

These two cars are in different classes & appeal to a different market class of car buyer. A side from the 05' Mustang having major engine problems it's an ok car. But if I was in the market for a new Muscle car and looks and handling ment nothing to me I would have to go with the 400hp 05' GTO.

I whole-heartedly agree with dmp. The first time I saw an '05 Mustang in the showroom and got in it, I immediately made that "what the f*ck is this?" face and got out. The interior is extremely cheap and plasticky. Even the exterior, for me, has lost its novelty--I'm already tired of seeing it (especially with the stock, non-performance tires). Maybe it's just me, but I loved the concept version much better. The production car just doesn't do it for me.

I second the GTO. You get more power, (arguably) better looks, and a much MUCH more exclusive car (don't think there will be GTOs in rental fleets any time soon). On top of all that, with GM's absurdly aggressive rebate plans, you can probably get one in the low 20's if you play all your cards right (I almost did). The only reason I don't have one is because my insurance would have doubled...aaaand because I drove the 8 again... :D

...but the GTO - at least the 04 model I drove, handles like shit, the brakes are spongy, the steering is vague - it feels more like a buick park-avenue than a muscle car.


If those things were fixed, I'd have one in my driveway...the interior was GREAT...the power was pretty good. :)

Here's why I'd NEVER buy a Mustang: You can rent it from Hertz.

To me the difference between a Mustang and an RX-8 is like the difference between a 2 1/2 lb. framing hammer and a Bostich pneumatic powered finishing nailer. Both will drive nails quite well. But one does it with pure brute force and isn't very enjoyable to use. And the other does it immense precision, a seeming lack of effort on the user's part, and is a joy to use.

Hey- I think you're on to something Stew- I own a Bostitch finishing nailer, and and an RX8... :)

The Mustang has a much better stereo and A/C. I haven't sat in the 05, but my seats in the 2004 Cobra are better. To me, those are the most important parts of the interior: good seat, good sound, good climate control. I drive at night mostly anyway, so looking at pretty leather, metal, and plastic isn't that important to me. I would rather impress my passenger with neck-snapping acceleration than pretty interior anyway. My kids scream with joy when I put the hammer down in the Cobra. They never made noises like that in the 8. :p

Stew, "not very enjoyable to use?" Hahaha, that is funnier than the big dick statement above. And you aren't likely going to be able to rent a V8 Mustang GT from Hertz.

I'll second you on the stereo. That bose thing is way over rated. We have not had to run the AC much in the 8 since it has not been cold enough.

With all the improvements Ford made I am not impressed with the looks for 05. I would rather have a 04 cobra they look more like a muscle car to me IMO.

The 05 Mustang is MUCH better than the car it replaces but Ford still found a way to water it down and mess it up. I respect the car but overall the RX8 is still a better sports car, but...I would have loved to taste a good old American V8...that's for sure...

Actually, you can rent V8 Mustangs in certain cities (Miami and Dallas being two of them).

The Mustang is fun to drive, but I'd never own one. Too high volume, me-too, and neanderthal. Too many dipshits in mullets drive V8 Mustangs for me to ever consider owning one.
