Which would mean I tested the slowest possible Legacy, other than the normally aspirated 2.5L models.
And for you answer!!

Ah, so they did change the gearing in the Outback to account for the larger tires. In fact, it looks like the manual Outback has lower gearing than the GT (probably to help offset it's added weight), but the auto gearing is nearly identical between the OB and GT.

Thanks for the links, fun with numbers!

Hey guys, I wanted to get your opinion about the new Subarus, I was thinking about buying one, 250HP, I like the sportier models w/o the sunroof. GT? My local dealer sells the **** out of all their Subarus at $350 over invoice.

Here is my question: I am a rear wheel drive fanatic. I won't buy an AWD car w/o a torque split to the rear wheels, as God intended.

So WTF, they only have this with the slushboxes, not with a stick? Are they going to fix this problem?

I understand the desire for a rear torque bias, but have you driven the manual with it's 50/50 split? Allot can be acomplished with suspension tuning to give a car a rear-wheel feel. Perhaps you should keep an open mind and drive one?

But yes, on the surface it is dissapointing that to get the (marginal) rear-bias, you have to get the auto.

The 50/50 bevel gear center differential is actually front biased because of the extra gear mesh in the transmission to raise the power output to the 'high' driveshaft.

The 45/55 automatic split is actually more rear biased because of the extra gear mesh to transfer power 'down' to the front (short) driveshaft

My 2005 Legacy is in. It came in yesterday, I went to the dealer and watched them do some of the DPI. I can't pick it up untill this afternoon but, I have to say I can't wait.

The dealer turned the car on for me and I wathced the needle sweep.....NICE...

Its black with black leather. The one thing that I need to change ASAP is the shifter...its the only thing on the whole car visualy that does not work. I orderd a STI short shifter but, its not in just yet.

I will post pics later today.
