Well. There's your answer on why it weighs so much. I still don't think it's worth it... most of those features are available on cheaper and lighter cars. I must concede that it does look pretty hot, though.

And how does 425 horsepower only get a 13.8 quarter? That's pretty sad. Sorry, but if that's all 425 horsepower gets you I don't think you're going to do much better with mods.

Where are all these performance numbers coming from, anyway? I don't think anyone's actually driven it yet.

Pretty sad, considering my Camaro ran a 12.9 with just exhaust. I'm sure with some mods the car will be quick, but it's always nice to be fast when you first buy it, too.

Also, just wanted to point out that the SRT-8 Challenger will not be offered in manual the first production year, but it WILL be offered after that.

Maybe I got ripped off but did your 8 run a 12.9 when you first bought it? Ha, I'm just kidding, I know what you're saying and I completely agree.

Brakes are too small for the weight and size of the car.

Whats the point of all that power if you can't use it?

Performance wise i see GM cleaning up with the Camaro. It will be about the same weight as a stang GT and have an LS X motor which IMO is the best V8 out their right now.
The 2009 Challenger R/T and SRT8 will be available with a 6spd pistol-grip manual.

whats with all this retro design plaging the american auto industry. First, thecamaro then now the charger. at least the GTO looks a bit modern. But cant they come up with a desing that will redefine the badge for the new era. i dont see mercedez or bmw doing any retro designs. Why does the US keep trying to bring back the olden days when the US ruled the automotive market? Those days are long gone. just my opinion.

I own a 2008 Dodge Charger SRT-8 with a Mopar CAI, Mopar Corsa Cat-Back and a Diablosport 93 performance tune with raised shift points and redline...

She is making about 450hp and 450 Torque

0-60: 4.69 Seconds
60-0: 110 Feet (That is world class performance, very big Brembos with factory slotted rotors)
1/4 Mile: 12.7 @ 112 (The trick is the launch with so much torque)
Top speed with the raised redline is 175mph

With a few more mods she will run low 12s high 11s in the 1/4 and with a supercharger 4-6K she will run the mid to low 11s...

One of the guys running a 75 Zex kit is running...

1/4 Mile ET: 11.880
1/4 Mile MPH: 116.780
1/8 Mile ET: 7.660
1/8 Mile MPH: 92.150
0-60 Foot ET: 1.800
Temperature F: 85.0

I have attached a pic of the timesheet...

The car is very well built, drives great, handles great, sounds great, is very comfortable and is a blast... For what it is, it can't be beat...

I will also be taking delivery of a 2009 Challanger with the 6 speed sometime in Nov-Dec... That car is getting a supercharger and will be making 600+ hp...

The first year's production of SRT-8's are sold out, according to Autoblog.

Me, I want that Caddy CTS Coupe! I have not been rocked by a new car like that in a LONG time.

I happened to take drivers training in a Dodge Charger with a pistol grip 4 speed. Yes, I had pictures of Mopar muscle cars hanging on my wall. I quickly learned better and have only owned 2 V8 powered cars in my life.
While the Challenger looks as good today as it did then, I'll pass. I like my cars smaller and lighter. I like to turn corners, instead off plowing of in terminal understeer.

Shame this car is gonna suck like a dimestore hooker, but feel free to shell out forty large for lead sled with a tractor engine in it. It'll be another American point-and-shoot city bus with a lunch tray interior. And everybody's gonna love it. Since I for one know that a several ton vehicle with a jillion horsepower is more commonly known as a garbage truck, I'll pass.
I hate to agree, but I agree. This car and a lot off the cars American car makers are pushing has all the sophistication and appeal of a dump truck. I want to see innovative, sexy, and modern designs and not continuous retro con game crap.

The damn car looks like some 70s retro sh*t that Starsky and Hutch or the "good old boys" from the Dukes Of Hazzard would jump out of. Like "what the f*ck" . This is 2008 and NOT 1978 or 1968.

Performance wise, the main impressive thing is the straight line numbers, which are OK for $40K and not earth shattering or anything. It looks about as much fun on turns, as turning a tank. This does not look like it will impress many kinds of chicks either.

^ I agree with you 100%... But you know, these US car companies wouldn't be going retro if it didn't make them money. It's all targeting the baby boomers that are now in their 50's. They got money in their pockets, kids are away from home and they want to re-live their youth... what better way than this?

Hell, when the import tuner generation gets old, every one will be saying "I wish I still had my Type R!"

You nailed it. Their not marketing to people born in late 70's or 80's. The big buyers will be the baby boomers, and the hard core muscle lovers. I'm sorry but there is no feeling like getting planted into your seat by a big V8. I had a Camaro before the 8 and though my 8 is a better all around car, my Z28 was a monster off the line.

i hate them.

they are unimaginative as far as exterior looks, and the interior looks like it came out of a '92 caravan. it is so hideous that I could never justify the $40k+ pricetag just because it's a speedy porker.

Still have the 2006 Ford GT, SRT-8 is the daily driver that will be passed on to the wife when her R350 goes back in a few months...

Next project car will be the Challanger... Never a dull moment...

I may actually do another rotary if Mazda comes out with a more powerful car in the future...

Rx8 was a fun project and a nice car. And for those that are knocking the Dodge, go drive one before you go off making negative comments on it... Sure it is 4100 Lbs, but it drives very nice and is a very comfortable fast car for what it is...

i'm sure it drives very nice for a $20,000 Neon, but I can think of a dozen cars I'd rather blow $40k + on.

i have to admit the muscle cars look has really grown on me the same one tat charger, camero and mustang was retroing.. (shows u how little i know about the actual cars)

i used to hate muscle car with a passion, but now i like em for what they are, v8 american muscles.

tat said....i'd still drive import anyday =p

and propz to the dodge chargers, i would never dare to run from a highway patrol car now.

Which do i prefer. i guess i would go with the challengers, since Cuda is one of my favorite cars. I think its pretty cool that they are brining back the retro look. to me only ppl who buy them are ppl who are fans of that car. like us buying the rx8, because we are fans of the rotary.

I know ppl say its stupid to bring back these cars, because one its to heavy, 2 its a auto, 3 its retro. but these cars are not for me or you. its for ppl like our fathers who are in their 55's+ want to have something from their youth. I do not think they even care what the 0-60 is. they just want something they think that looks hot in their youth times.

but that is just my opinion.
