while that is quite an accomplishment, and I can respect any type of work done to cars, calling the rotary engine crappy on an RX forum isnt exacly going to make you tons of friends. Maybe you don't care about tha and are just here to gloat in which case you are just a bastard.
Nice work - but now your balance is all F'd up and you had better rip the "R" in your RX7 off the back of your car. You now only own an X7 hehe

It's an aluminum small block over 100lbs lighter than a cast iron small block. The v-8 weighs the same as the twin turbo rotary it replaces. Perfect 50/50 weight.

Of course it's fast 400+ hp & 400+ ft/lb or torque in a car that weighs 2700lbs?
It's been running for 3 years or so now.

From LS1-"mx-7" owners I've talked to the engine is so much lighter wieght that sometimes doing a battery relocation to the back makes it back heavy 51/49.
The LS1 swap seems to be getting alot more popular, as more and more of the older rotary engines die out.
I'd take a lighter, more powerful, naturally aspirated engine over a heavier turbo'd one any day as well.
Very nice car I wish I could do one as a project car. I saw a LS1 -FD at an autocross, it got a standing ovation after its first run because it was doing donuts =). The drivers seemed to get used to it though and were able to get some good times.

you stole that rx-7's soul
so is it fair to say that they messed up a great engine (with the corvette) by putting it into an inferior body?
looks nice have fun

From your website: "then power it with the worst engine design in automotive history?"
That's pretty harsh. There was nothing wrong with the engine design. The application of the auxillary equipment and materials chosen for them is what went wrong.
I'm not insulted by you doing that, all that tells me is how much respect the general public gives that chassis. Would have been much simpler for you to get a C5 and call it a day.

hey, Irondonut- if you are trying to **** people off, you'd be much better served by posting this on the RX-7 boards- you'll get better flames there. As it is, I'm just moving it to General Automotive where it'll most likely get ignored.

Irondonut......Great job man! I was pondering a Ford V8 swap into my RX8 just because I am very familiar with Ford engines. How expensive was the conversion? Too many people on this forum think the rotary engine is the greatest design ever......ignore them. Why wouldn't someone want more power naturally aspirated without increasing weight all-the-while decreasing powertrain maintenance costs, increasing fuel efficiency (not much) and possibly increasing durability/reliability?
Again....great work on your RX7.

And as for the rotary is the best comment i dont understand what you are saying. Do i think rotary is the best engine ever? answer is no, but then again i do not think other engines types are the best either. all engines types have there ups and downs. i look at them equal.
as for the op, i tihnk its cool you was able to do engine swap. what ever makes you happy then that is all that matters. what i think of your project is differ from you, but my opion is only for me. so good job on your project.
