I think I'm the only that thinks a rotary in this car is a bad idea. Mazda wanted to compete in luxurious, comfort, quality and the car looks to be competing with cars like Panamera, M6, etc. Its gonna be real heavy and if its just a 16X assuming it can produce 280 hp is still too weak to lug around those weight. Unless its only aimed to be the poor man's Panamera or whateva.

In general rich people that would buy these cars wants "zero maintenance" impression, they just wanna drive it, leave it at dealership for servicing, drive off with it. Rotary engine apparently is only a good selling point to rotary enthusiasts as sad as it may sound. This car looks good but it better go faster than it looks.

I'm crossing my fingers for a very lightweight coupe version with similar or better performance than the last RX-7.

Looks great. The issue is it's ability to sell and that will depend on the powerplant.

I like the Transformers/Terminator thing the headlights and tail lights have going on. I like the roof line, surfacing and the details but I don't like the huge grill and tall/long nose. Great concept either way but how well they translate this into production remains to be seen. I'm hoping they nail it but anything will be better than big smiley face at this point.

yes! they do scream rotary, but those similar wheels are offered on the current 3, so i think mazda just loves that wheel style no matter what car it is

i've already asked for dimensions but to speculate

the wheels are 21. a little comparison from one wheel to next is a little less than 5 1/4 "wheel lengths" gives it 110ish inch wheelbase. RX-8s is 106.4 , Mazda 6 is 109.8 sooo the Shinari isn't as big as it may appear in some pics. Its a mid-size not a full aize

Good idea... I wouldn't have thought of doing that. It's not nearly as big as it looks then.

Are there any pics of the rear seats? From what I saw last night, no one had included pictures of rear seats at all.

Edit: just looked again and there are pics... the back has a pretty similar design to the 8... just a little more spacious. I like the full center console look a lot.

Better question: Where's the shifter? Obviously I see the paddle shifters, but if it's an automatic, there should still be a shifter...

Which means this car is targeting Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series market which makes sense if they want to move up stream.

See, I was thinking about that when I saw the fact that the center console extends all the way back. Would the loss of that middle seat be a significant issue if they did try to compete in that market? Would they just redesign that section? Is this design even targeting that market?

Biggest question: are we looking at a design that is merely supposed to be representative of the future stylings we might see from mazda, or is it supposed to be an early representation of a car they intend to make a reality. The look of the car definitely gives the feel of a more realistic production car than most of their concepts seem to have, but it might just be an indication of their planned styling.

Looking at the pictures of the Shinari concept, its obvious this platform can be used for both 4 door and 2 door applications. In all honesty , the 4 door concept looks like a evolved RX-8. I am shock nobody hasn't did any side comparisons as of late. Mazda has really stepped up the bar with this concept.

I could do without the paneramic roof(to hot for that here in Fl), the back up cameras, the fancy 1080 dash. Just give us the body and a rotary engine in that , and I will surely give you a check on day one Mazda!

Beautiful, back to a Japanese designer with a passion for cars. And look he is working for Mazda.

I see nothing but WIN in Mazda's future....

Actually, according to GoAuto Shinari was designed by a former KIA/Hyundai employee..

The imposing C/D-segment sized
Shinari’s exterior, which measures almost
1.9 metres wide, was created by talented
36-year-old Korean Yong Wook Cho, a
former Hyundai-Kia designer.
