Yes, but with more margin. The competition into what you call " midsize FWD sedans" is very high in US and margins very thin.

Mazda have a long history into successful "niche models", so transform Mazda 6 into a RWD sedan for me is a good move.

less sales (globally) , more margins. Don't forget that Mazda build 6 in Japan, with a strong yen. They are forced to rise average price of each car produced.

Offer a Premium Midsize sedan in direct competition with Germans at slightly less price and great tech make sense.

Obviously they need also AWD versions.

According to latest Mazda Report global production of 6 (China production included ) is 178.000 cars /each year. (see attached pic)

Probably the production in Hofu factory in japan don't reach the 120.000 units/year.
Mazda6 is a niche model already, deal with it

Produce 80.000 /100k New RWD 6 at + 15-20% in average price it could be a good move, business wise.
