I remember when someone said the new impreza was going to be a hatch back, 3 and 5 doors. Not a very credible source, obviously, but it made me so happy for a few minutes. God damn, that would be a sweet *** ride.

IMHO, wrx is much better than the evo, sick of the evo. every other car down here is an evo. bleh

It very well may happen, also you can probably say goodbye to the Impreza name as Subaru goes the way of the meaningless numbers and letters naming like most other car manufacturers.

the spoilers have function... and actually make a huge difference on these cars.

At first i didnt like the design of the STi or Evo... but now they are really growing on me. I still prefer my 8, but I have alot of respect for these cars.

Then slowly almost all of them come around and end up liking the looks and often end up buying one. I guess it's sort of like music, there are CDs you can buy and like instantly but often they get boring rather fast. The CDs that I consider my favorites now I wasn't so sure about at first, but after listening to it more I like it better with each listen.

P.S. The new front end is supposed to be paying homage to Subaru's roots as an aircraft manufacturer.

Amen! Godammit its great to see a non-designer finally realize what we've been trying to accomplish the whole time. I felt like my posts were always falling on deaf ears, until you showed up. That's EXACTLY what bangle, subaru, Nissan etc. have been trying to do! You won't like it at first because its new and radical, but after a while it starts growing on you, and you end up liking the car alot.

The example of using music...perfect. That's exactly how I felt about my music too. If you like the music right away (your taste, style etc.) it will probably get boring quick. My favorite CDs or songs right now, are the ones that I bought a while back, listened to, put away. Listened to again recently and finally realized it was a nice piece of work.

The same thing goes for design. I hated the Z4 (granted most people will REFUSE to aknowledge that they actually like it deep inside) and now I love it. But I also knew it was only a matter of time. The same can be said about the 350z. It didn't do much for me when it came out, and I loved the G35 coupe when it came out. But now I'm bored of the G35. Its a brilliant design, but not really groundbreaking or as daring as the Z. To the untrained eye, its more acceptible, and more "likeable", but you will easily forget about it. Good job IKE. My hats off to you.

I think its pretty simple, somethings survive the test of time, some don't...
I don't think an Impreza (not to say I dont like the WRX) will be in any classic car museums, nor the z4 or Bangles initial 7 series (of a few years ago), which he had to refresh a bit for this year and made a bit more conservative-that didn't survive the test of only a few years.

That being said, I respect cars that survive the test of time- and agree with you the G35 seems to be dating quickly. But while I like designes that are unconventional, I wouldn't give too much credit to this "genious foreshawdowing you will magically like it in a few years" method.-again, somethings just somehow stand the test of time, others don't. One wouldn't say the subaru fxs of the early 90s have necessarily stood the test of time, and those things were way radical. Or the original Ford Probe. Or the Honda INsight. Or a bunch of cars, including some recent 'radical ones'.

I hear what both you and Ike are saying, but a band that comes up with f'd up music just to be different doesn't mean that band will be good in a few years either

I agree. I'm not saying that the new STI or imprezza is going to be a classic nor, stand the test of time. I'm just saying its not going to get as boring as the other cars as quickly . I see it as this:

First Year) Eeeewww! Ugly!!
Third Year) Hmmm...not bad....
Fourth Year) Yeah...its pretty cool looking...

:D

Oh, and the music, yeah, I'm not saying it for all the bands. Example: I kinda liked Moby when "Play" came out...it was catchy, easy to enjoy, nice tunes etc. Whereas, I also bought Aphex Twin at the same time. Granted, completetly different bands, I got bored of Moby ALOT quicker than Aphex Twin.

I don't think either of us are saying the Impreza or any other car mentioned is destined to be a classic, simply that these are not the type of cars that will instantly have mass appeal. There will be a small portion of society that will get it, and the rest of society will continue to listen to top 40 music, eat at the Olive Garden, and drink their Yellow Tail.

There will always be a fringe that likes odd ball stuff. Doesn't mean it will be anything other than odd ball stuff. Some guys like really fat chicks. Doesn't mean they will ever be accepted as beautiful by most people. Most will always think, look at that big ugly wing, oops rear end.

I don't see what there is to get. It's the same old Imprezza body with the new Subaru corporate face. Not exactly groundbreaking.

Yeah, thats kind of what I was trying to say, while it may grow on some, its hard to tell whether its 'designed to mature to a particular crowd', or just plain weird. I don't mind the styling but am not crazed about it either or think i ever will be- quite franky given its performance, I think its okay.

Maybe its like the girl analogy..."she's not that hot, BUT, she has a great personality"

With the Evo and STi I think the analogy is more along the lines of "she may not have a model's figure, but she can suck a ping-pong ball through a garden hose and f*ck like a **** star". :D

The only thing i love of the new wrx is the engine. Damn 230hp with 235 torque. ****. Wish our cars have that much torque. However, the interior :D ...dont have to complain much as everyboy already known how it looks like

The HP is most likely underated and closer to 250 (like the Forester XT). I really don't get why people complain so much about the interior, the 04+ are certainly nicer than my interior and I think my interior is well built, a little plain, but not unattractive. I went from an Audi to the WRX and I have no complaints about the WRX interior. The WRX's seats are better, there are no rattles, no noticeable wear, the pedal placement is perfect, the pedals feel better, the clutch feel is volumes better, and things are well placed otherwise.
