This car has nothing to do with a status image, it has everything to do with uncompromised unleashed technology, if Toyota wanted to actually break even on this car they would have to sell it for another $100K,

This car plainly and simply says "we are Toyota, and we learned a hell of alot in F1, and to everyone else BRING IT"

Meh, it's just rice:
An acoustically tuned surge tank linked to 10 individual throttle bodies creates a powerful induction sound. The coordination of intake and exhaust sounds overlap at various RPMs to create a unique, exciting and inspired soundtrack.
(That is the definition of rice...right?)

doesn't matter how much it is, they're gonna sell every single one of those 500 LFA's as soon as they release it

to me it seems like a lambo, gtr, and r8 went for an amazing three some. which to me makes this car un-unique

Exactly what I think as well. The price tag really doesnt matter to them. They got the publicity, Lexus now has a super car. It might not be the fastest, but this car probably has more engineering efforts put into it than the GT-R, some Ferrari's and definitely all of Lambo and Audi.

Just crafting that chassis is no easy task, and they did it in-house with knowledge gained from F1 for sure. And that V10 is the best sounding piston engine period. Of course a PP 3 or 4-rotor would sound even nicer!

This car is the child of what Toyota learned in racing all these years. It screams F1 and LeMans to me. And the front has looks of the Supra as well.

Job well done by Toyota I'd say.

If they sell all 500 units at 400k, that'd "only" be 200 million. I'm pretty sure more R&D dollars went into it. The chassis with these specs might make up all of that 200million already, not to mention Toyota's first super high performance V10 engine.

I watched the video about 7-8 times today and it just blew my mind how that sounds you could literally substitute the soundtrack over footage of Toyota's TF109 and you would never know the difference,,,

The thing is that this car might eat a lot of Ferrari alive. Not to mention it looks much better than most Ferrari design, you might not agree, thats just me.

375K sounds like highway robbery. but its not meant for people like "us" to get our hands on.

Dont forget they're going to make 500 "only" they have to at least get back the R&D cost for the car. if its mass produced Im sure the price will be much much MUCH lower.

This car will not outperform the new ferrari 458.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=8280

It's cheaper (200K vs. 375K)
more sophisticated (electronic suspension, multi clutch 7spd trans, smaller V8 with the same power)
faster (3.3 vs. 3.7 0-60)
will probably lap faster
Maybe the LFA will get better gas mileage.

Toyota's car is impressive but there is nothing that creates a compelling offer for it in the market vs. it's competitors. It's doesn't definitively stand out in one quality or another above the competition.

Well, with 500 units planned, it'll destroy the competition in exclusivity. At those prices, a lot of people are looking for that,

Not to repeat too much what has already been stated, but plain and simply, Toyota is doing this... because they can.

They caught news at all the people laughing at their other garbage cars and said... laugh at this. While some of you in here are, most people certainly will not. I'm also sure if Toyota had chosen a different goal, like say Nurburgring times, they would have destroyed the GTRs, said laugh at this, and walked away.

You gotta remember one thing. Toyota is the only car company right now, that can make a car, knowingly take a loss on it, and not even care. Why? Cause they have over 1.2 Prius sold. They will make it back elsewhere, and possibly take some of that technology they developed, patent that and make everyone else buy it, just like that hybrid system that every other manufacturer is "renting".
Toyota just give a big giant F-U to every other "car manufacturer" out there... I use the term car manufacturer because terms like "opposition", and "competitor" are just non-existent when it comes to Toyota.

Performance Wise, this thing seems Awesome, but not for the price. I could list a ton of Modded cars that would smoke it, cost less, and look better doing so. With that said... I'd take it for a spin given the chance.

I hope it does better than the Ford GT
P.S. I also like how the 3200 lb weight wasn't mentioned... that's kick-***.

P.P.S. For some reason I thought this thing was Mid-Engine... My only qualm is that its not.

P.P.P.S. That Aston Martin looks like a 29 grand Hyundai...

Needs clear corners! LOL

Maybe if Toyota hadn't stopped making cars worth a damn in the early 90s, this thing might cost less? Development costs go way up for supercars when you make nothing but boring **** for several years...

Mostly a joke, F1 costs a lot no matter what; the car is supremely expensive, but not worth it to me - it's stunning but not stunning "enough".

*EDIT* - This is a repeat of the McLaren SLR, but from a less distinguished manufacturer. F1 tie in and development = mega bucks for a car that isn't the absolute fastest. In comparison to that, this is a bargain - the SLR isn't as limited in production, and cost another 100 grand on top; and that has a slushbox.

I say its a mistake Remake of the Ford GT. Too costly, too exclusive, too high pricing and for a brand that is mostly focused on beaters.
