It's official...we (taxpayers) have been robbed by Bush and Obama
The taxpayer bailout of GM and Chrysler has been a real bust. New figures from the Congressional Oversight Panel suggest that all $81 billion doled out by both former Pres. Bush and current Pres. Obama will be an almost complete loss.
Do we suddenly buy more cars because we have two more automakers? No. So how many jobs did it save to bail out two failed automakers? The answer is that it doesn't save any jobs.
How about the populist argument that "American jobs" were saved? Well, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mercedes and other foreign nameplates make their vehicles all over the United States. Meanwhile, GM makes cars in Korea for the U.S. market and Ford makes them in Mexico -- in addition to what each churns out at domestic plants.

For starters, Ford did not participate in the bailout program.
There has not been a single government program that has saved money or has come in under the projected budget amount.

Same can be said about a lot of things former presidents have done. If you think it's wrong, go voice your opinions by writing to your congressman, etc instead of whining on a car enthusiast forum.

Perhaps I should point out that for someone who seems to dislike threads such as this, you seem to be doing a lot of posting in it.
Logic of talking about politics on a no politics forum is still better than logic of talking about how much you hate political threads in a thread about politics.

Oh and btw.....after reading up on that sky engine that Mazda is building and I'm sure Toyota, Honda, Nissan (maybe), and even probably the taiwan and korean car makers are probably trying to match, in a couple years American car companies are going to be in the gutter completely...again.
You cant pour all your profit into your personnel. All the other car companies get to pour their profit back into the company via research and development while GM, Ford, and Chrysler get big bonuses and unmatched benefits and retirement.....and no jobs down the road.
Let those companies fail....let the strong survive.
I believe in welfare...but not for companies. GM is a failed product and Detroit isn't going to get any better until they re write and tone down the labor agreements and get rid of the big CEO salaries. They have a fail fail situation over there.
