you have a 10yo son who wants something to plink targets/varmints with. He's been around BB/pellet guns before, prolly even shot a couple. SO, in your infinite wisdom, simply because you can afford to - you buy him a Barret .50 rifle

after the government seizes one for misuse, you buy him another. pure ******* genius

if you ask me, those parents willingly endanger their kid and everyone on the road with him. you simply dont stick a kid in a car like that and expect them not to end up and a stain on the road. sucks for the kid, cause he's prolly not mature enough to understand it, but were that to happen i'd have to smile at Darwanism in action. Prevent fools like that from passing on the retard genes
I think that this is an excellent analogy.

The kid doesn't have to be bad, but trashing one super-car should be a good warning sign of things to come (especially considering the light-hearted way that his friend mentioned this). Buying him another just seems a little thoughtless.

Remember American M5?

Hah, natural selection will work its magic. We need to take all the warning labels off of everything too and let all the stupid ones die off. Population control!
Danger: To avoid danger of suffocation, keep this plastic bag away from babies and children.
Danger: To avoid serious injury or death, keep this Lamborghini Gallardo away from teens and young adults.

Off with the labels I say!

I have class in a few minutes, so not enough time to re-read the thread... but... IF the kid was responsible for the first one being in a crash, there is absolutely not logical reason for him to get a second one.

Either way: It is true that not all kids are irresponsible, but statistics show that young male drivers are more likely to be in a wreck. I know plenty of friends who did dangerous stuff in cars much slower than any lambo, and that includes my fairly mature and otherwise safe friends. If you can, without the slightest doubt, say that your kid would never be irresponsible or reckless with that kind of car, then you've raised a very dull kid. I'll be the first to admit that I'd probably have killed myself if I had a car with that kind of potential at that point in my life.

Haha, I was just about to say "If I had a Gallardo at that age I would've killed myself by now". Oh well, OP abandoned this thread a few years ago but we're still going strong!

ya responsibility isnt the issue, because although i think it is irresponsible... i have no grounds to argue that.

it has everything to do with skill/experience/ability.

My reasoning is that even some of the most responsible kids will do stupid stuff. If the kid does something stupid in a lower powered car, the severity of the results is going to be much lower. A kid who misuses a BB gun multiple times will still cause less damage than what 1 misuse of 50 cal could do.

We naturally overestimate our ability to judge people, even those closest to us. Many parents make the mistake of having their "perfect little angels" that are different from all the rest. I can't say this without exception, but a fairly good rule of thumb is: "kids will be kids". Younger males have it in their heads that they're invincible and that none of the statistics will apply to them. It's very well proven that the older we get, we take less risks, and the risks we do take are less severe.
