eh. drivetrain loss can be caused by a multitude of things. 40 horsepower DT loss would be impressive. That's less than 10%!
I'm not saying it cant be done, but if they're doing it, then wow.

One of the guys at the RX7/8 meet last night here in DFW had dyno sheets of his 3rd gen with him of both the engine and the flywheel. Dynos were done on the same day at the same shop. He was putting down 400 at the flywheel and 348 at the wheels. That's 13% loss approximately.
Well, remember that there isn't significantly more parasitic loss in a 500hp drivetrain than a 100hp drivetrain. You've still got to spin the same parts around. Of course it's not just a set "It will take 25hp to spin the drivetrain" either. The drivetrain in a 500hp is quite a bit beefier than that of a low hp car, so it will sap more power. But as you get higher and higher up, the overall percentages drop significantly. Start breaking 500hp and single-digit percentage drivetrain loss is not unusual at all.

And then there's the possibility, and even likelihood that the flywheel number isn't correct to begin with. It's rather common for a manufacturer to under-rate their power for a variety of reasons, some more than others. The SRT-4, for example, puts down almost the same power at the wheels as Dodge claims it gets at the engine. That doesn't mean there's no drivetrain loss, just that it's under-rated by the manufacturer.

yeah it seems mazda is the only one that OVER rates their cars. unless the rx8 really does have 25% dt loss
