Rx-8 vs 370 after 3000 miles

After 4300km (aprox 3k miles) I dynoed the 370 to have a baseline before any mods. The numbers of good, no offense to the rx8 owners, and aren't in the same league as a stock rx8.

The dyno sheet shows comparison between stock and the K&N filters (not bad considering 100$ filter investment).

I will go back to the dyno when the PCM "learns" the effects of the new CBE.

Ps. I also went to the track a week ago, and wasn't able to get the same lapping times i was getting on my last 8... Getting use to a heavy car is not easy. The 8 felt a lot more controllable and nimble throughout the chicanes than the Z.

ps2. Yes, the Z needs an extra oil cooler if you intend to put it on the track (limp mode reached 2 times during the last track day).

AHH, Horse Power who needs it....lol..

The RX-8 like the MX-5 is not all about POWER!!..

Take the MX-5 Voted in Australia by 'Wheels' magazine as the BEST SPORTS ROADSTER under $150K..

VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – October 30, 2009:

The world’s most popular two-seat roadster, Mazda MX-5, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with another prestigious motoring award.

The ever-popular MX-5 fended off the challenge from premium European competition to be awarded the Best Sports Roadster under $150K in the annual Wheels magazine Gold Star Cars Awards. A solid performance against each of the judging criteria saw the MX-5 come out ahead of the Mercedes Benz SLK 350 and the Audi TTS Roadster.

While the MX-5 is globally renowned for its impressive ride and handling, the focus of the Wheels Gold Star Cars Awards extends further than just driving dynamics. An expert panel of judges evaluates each vehicle against ten different criteria to identify the car that offers the best ownership proposition in its category.

The Mazda MX-5 is no stranger to winning awards having won over 180 gongs worldwide since its introduction in 1989. In this time, it has also been a two-time winner of Wheels Car of the Year, in 1989 and 2005.

“For the MX-5 to win its category in the Wheels Gold Star Cars Awards against such premium competition really speaks volumes about its quality. This award continues to highlight the reasons why the MX-5 remains popular with Australian buyers 20 years after it was first launched,” said Mazda Australia’s managing director Doug Dickson.

“The MX-5 offers class-leading handling and design combined with excellent levels of safety and comfort. And when you also consider the exceptional value it provides owners, it’s little wonder the MX-5 remains the world’s best-selling open two-seat sports car.”

The Wheels Gold Star Cars Awards were published in the November issue of the newly revamped Wheels magazine.

This thread title is 370z vs Rx-8... let us hear it from owners of both cars!

I guess you have both and wanted to point out something about the mx-5?

Since I had also had a 90 Miata i would be happy to discuss about it in a MX-5 forum.

Yes, thanks mate..that was my point..

AH Yeah....
this is GENERAL AUTOMOTIVE in an RX-8 Forum and the Subject is about a NISSAN Z, and YES my comment is about POWER and HOW a car like the MX-5 with NO Power can beat so called classier German Roadsters.

Yes we know the Z has more POWER, just like many other movers.

And this thread has been going Nowhere for Months..

BTW, The MX-5 in question is a 2010 model.

Thread revival

Yes it's time to revive this thread. I am a former 8 owner and a current 370z Owner and wanted to do a little comparo.

I went for a few years driving my 8 enjoying its handling and feeling like a royalty every time I drove it. It was never tracked but went through the twisties almost every weekend. Things I loved about the car were obviously its handling, getting compliments from complete strangers, the seating position, the amazing cockpit, it just fit me like a glove, unlike any other car I had driven. BUT, it always felt underpowered, it killed me filling up with less than 300 miles to the tank.

The 370z is everything that was lacking in the 8. It has POWER, tons of it. And this car handles, better than the 8 if I might add. Yes, it's not a fair comparison cuz the 8 hasn't evolved since its first introduction but that is Mazda's fault! To get 25 mpg while enjoying 300 + horses doesn't bother me as much.

I will continue the pros and cons as time goes on. Feel free to start a debate!

I raced on Hockenheimring today with a nice blue 370Z. I could take it easily on the corners, but when we hit the long straightaways he would speed by me.

Yea your cars faster. and handles better and gets better gas mileage.

However I didn't buy and R3...

I bout a used 04 for 10 grand 2 years ago. and now I have an estimated 220 whp and have only spent 5 grand on mods putting me at 15k total versus your 33k.

I can now beat all generations of lightly modified Z's at the track.

I'm just saying.

I didn't read most of this thread but i'm guessing it's just a bunch of bickering back and forth

Anyways, my only input here is just a personal observation. Every time i've been at the track or at an autocross and a 370z shows up they just park and watch. I get excited because i really want to see how fast they are but they just pop their hood and talk about how fast it is

I actually encountered an a-hole in a 350. before my engine rebuild, with blown shocks, and **** clutch. I lost. when I have my engine build complete I'll be sure to have another encounter with him and let you know how I did.
