I'm looking at the Audi A3, and the VW Jetta, both in FWD with their diesel engines, or even the Jetta Hybrid car. People who buy those German cars for their fuel economy, but want better long term reliability, will probably be quick to switch over to the Mazda 3. Those who want the driving experience or the interior quality will need to get a test drive in before they are truly convinced.

If Mazda puts the SkyActiv-D in the Mazda 6 and the CX-5, they will also put it into the Mazda 3. It will greatly increase their fleet fuel economy numbers, and give them conquest sales to steal from VW/Audi instantly.

And trust me, conquest sales are the most important numbers to a smaller car company, like Mazda. Retention sales, not nearly as much as you would think.

Oh agreed eventually. I am never clear in my posts lol I meant for the release of the new design when it becomes available (this fall?) I would assume they work the deisel into the Mazda 3 within a year or so..

We are not even been offered training by Mazda on the Skyactiv-D yet (in Canada)

I don't think North American training has begun at all for Skyactiv diesel (Not sure). I do not think they have plans to bring us the diesel variety in the US, unless they are creating a MPS version to replace the current and I agree that would not happen initially. Also, anything less than 250 hp is not going to cut it for that purpose, I don't care how much torque it produces.
I'm not sure that Mazda intends to bring us a diesel CX-5 at all. There is SO MUCH LOW LYING FRUIT in the VW CAMP. A lot of people would gladly switch, IF MAZDA WOULD GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY!

Paul...

I can't confirm 'which' or what Motor Show the all new Mazda 3 will be debut at, accept I heard ''next month'', I can't see anything on the M-Show calendar for next month apart from maybe Mexico.?

I know Mazda Australia are SCREAMING out for this all new model as the all new Toyota Corolla has knocked the Mazda 3 off the #1 sales perch here.

I will go as far to say the all new 3 will be released here in Australia before anywhere else outside of Japan...my whisperers say that it is being rushed for release down under ASAP, like the new 6.

Yes there will be a Mazda 3 SA-Diesel (for Australia).

I am pretty certain the USA will get the SA-D in the CX-5 and 6 and possibly the 3 later on.

Production #'s wise there is just no spare production capacity for the new 3 or 6 in Hofu, Japan, until the Mexico plant opens for NA supply of new 2 and new 3.

It's a great problem to have, isn't it?

Just out of curiosity, exactly how many plants does Mazda have, and which vehicles do they build at each one?

Yep..at the moment Mazda are concentrating allocation to markets which makes the most $$$'s for them..

Hiroshima, Ujina #1 and #2 plants, builds RX-8, MX-5, Mazda 2, Mazda 5, CX-5, 7 and 9, Domestic MPV, Biante and a few others, Suzuki supplies some micros and Nissan supplies a small re-badged van/wagon).

Hofu Japan, Mazda 3 and 6.

Auto Alliance in Thailand, Ford/Mazda, builds Mazda 2, Fiesta, Mazda BT-50 and Ranger Ute.

Flat Rock, Michigan, 50:50 with Ford, but no longer builds Mazda (and never will again, Mazda will sell soon).

China, alliance with FAW builds Mazda 3 and 6 (old 6 so far).

Russia, new alliance with local maker to build/assemble CX-5 and 6 and I think 3.

Malaysia, just announce to have a new plant, at the moment CKD of CX-5 and 3.

I think that is about it....?

Not a fan of where Mazda's design team is taking their new cars, they all look the same just different sizes, nothing really special about any of them, I expected......well more.

While I hear you and agree somewhat, what has happened over the past decade is the ongoing 'regulatory requirements' which has actually taken the 'design' out of making all new product.

When making a new model for a 'world market' there are so many requirements to pass '''a''' countries regulation is enormous.

The packaging necessary just adds up to everything looking and being the same, then there are the penalties 'if' a new product does not pass said design requirements.

Some high end brands have a little more 'freedom' as their production numbers are so much lower with different client's who are prepared to pay the 'penalty' for exclusivity.

Makers like Mazda just can not afford to build and design a car which will not achieve a 5 star safety rating.

But yeah, it is a PITA as all cars look the same.

Mazda's New Ad Sloagan

You can go with this, or you can go with that. It will still feel like this

Choose any model you want, you can't notice the difference.

The end of individualism, ZoomZoom!

The new 5door MZ3 looks exactly like a CX-5 but shrunk... Not that it's particularly a bad thing as I think the CX-5 does have good proportions and lines. But this does go back to individuality between models, which clearly doesn't seem to exist much with the new SkyActiv platforms.

i partially agree..but reading a lot of papers about Skyactiv platform is quite clear that Mazda will have launched/projected a FAMILY of products..3,5,6,cx5 and another bigger cx-?.

we will see more differences in style in smaller products and sportcars IMHO

Honestly, does it really matter if all of Mazda's bread and butter cars look alike?
If they sell like hot cakes, and we know the CX-5 is doing very well, I really doubt the Mazda 3 will fall off the face of the earth, Mazda stays in business, makes a profit, and then they give us a new Miata, which they make even more profit by selling a version to Alfa Romeo, and then, finally, after the stars align, we might get a new RX-7.

So, let the CX-5, CX-9, Mazda 3, Mazda 6, and eventually the Mazda 2 all look alike.
Just keep selling the things as quickly as they hit the dealerships, and all will be good in Mazda's future.

BC.

Agree....ALL car makers have the same 'corporate look' with each bread and butter model.

What will be interesting will be the all new Mazda CX-3 sorry Mazda 2....these should really set the market on fire (provided they get it right), particularly in Europe and Australia, while the current 2 has been a great seller (here) it is long overdue for update (particularly the OLD very basic MZR 1.5).

The Japan (JDM) Mazda 2 with 1.3 SA Engine gets ridiculous MPG!.

Yes a lot of auto manufactures have a design theme they use through out their line up. IMO Mazda is making all their models just too similar.

I spoke to one of my most significant Mazda people today and I like what he has to say about this car. I cannot (Will not) quote him but he is VERY impressed with the new 3, and other good things are on the way .

How about you paraphrase what he said, and you can name him Mr 3?
