I agree that the black on the bottom is not the best treatment, but I think the stylist added that to suppress the boorish thickness and to prevent the car from looking too tall like the current version.
It's a drastic solution for sure. I'd have opted for a darker tone of the body color to achieve a similar effect but I guess that would be an expensive solution.

Watching the special on Speed channel, I found it interesting when the performance engineer came up on the stage. He said they worked to improve both performance and vehicle dynamics and he went on talking about the horsepower. Then he began mentioning "we've worked hard to give the fans what they've been asking for" and I thought surely they must be clamoring for lighter weight and better handling. Nope, power mods. Though, to be fair, I think he mentioned a FRT (giggle) suspension setup as an aside right before he left the stage.

I've always hated every Mustang that's come out but this one is much better than the previous one. The rear is cleaned up and tucked in. Taillights look much better, much more aggressive. Front end more aggressive. Interior is surprisingly nice looking now. Everything that's changed is better, which equates to a good redesign.

look at the 2 side views of the new one and a 60s version posted earlier
the older ones green house vs body side height is much more balanced than the newer ones.
there must be a way to design around this

yeah thats what i find wrong in general the height of the side of the car from sill to top of door. I know that safety regs nearly require this high shoulder line but it makes the car look dis-proportionate

still ugly... the plastic rocker panels make the side panels look less bulky but they look really cheap. I can't really imagine a muscle car with black plastic trim, wheres the chrome?

Wheels are fugly, and I can't understand why any of the american manufacturers have to make cars that are sooooo freaking big, heavy, unaerodynamic, and under-focused on quality suspension and handling characteristics. The retro look, feel, and size of american vehicles in general speaks volumes for why the big three are in danger of going under - while other manufacturers offer smaller, lighterweight, more fuel efficient (except for our RX8's) and aerodynamic vehicles with great reliability in a time of rising gas and oil prices and economic downturn the americans keep making bricks!
What a shame, because I'd rather buy american if the choice were easier - and a nice american V8 is an awesome sound.

No matter how much criticism is thrown upon the new Pony Car, Ford knows that Grog will see it, say "New Mustang! Grog LIKE!" and they'll still sell a bazillion of them.
I should Falken Punch you for speaking such blasphemy.

i saw that car this weekend at the la auto show... not impressive at all. typical mustang but the plastic bits make the current gen look cheap. the interior is poor and the suspension is still prehistoric. the rear tails look disgusting in person btw.

no, the plastic bits on the 04-08 rx8 don't look like they were thrown onto an existing bumper as garnish. the mustang basically refreshed the current model by adding black bits of plastic to shorten the height of the car, a trend that a lot of auto makers are moving towards.
