I'm surprised no one have talked about Alonso crossing the pit lane line during qualifying. The race is about to start and still no word on a penalty. Both ITV and SPEED channel's commentators have noted that the moment it happened.

i was suprise also. i guess they figured that no cars was around him, they let it passed. but i am very curious why they just ignored it

Is that a penalty? I know it would be if he was exiting the pitlane, but I'm not sure it matters if you're entering it.

The rule clearly states you can't cross the pit lane entry line without a 5-grid penalty or monetary fine. So for instance, you are about to enter the pit lane but for some reason you wanted to head back out onto the track. If you do, and cross the white line where it indicates the pit lane begin, you will suffer a penalty.

Piquet did it too during the race. I've seen other drivers suddenly dive into the pits and cross the line without a penalty. Maybe they wont call it unless it endangers another driver.

Another "fluke" race. I won't spoil it, but damn. I'm starting to wonder how closely matched Renault and BMW are.

Way to go Alonso! I believe that Renault have caught and surpassed BMW in terms of performance. I would love to see a 3-team,(wishfull thinking) maybe even a 4-team race for the championship next season.

How could BMW let this happen? Did they get lazy? They're probably focusing a lot of their efforts on the rule changes for next year. Did anyone else feel that Kubica was a little pissed during the post-race interview that his team isn't developing the car as fast as they should?

Anyone here think Sebastien Bourdais's penalty for bumping into Massa's car was fair? Any Ferrari bias in the stewarts' judgement? I don't watch SPEED channel's coverage because I don't like their commentary and lack of involvement compared to ITV's coverage, so I can only make my analysis from my source (ITV).

Lets replay this incident once more. Sebastien came out of the pit lane ahead of Felipe so Sebastien automatically got the inside line into turn 1. This isn't like previous races where Sebastien is often a lap down from McLaren and Ferrari, this was for position. The Toro Rosso had every right to fight to keep his position. Felipe was on the outside line approaching turn 1 and almost passes Sebastien because he was going about 190mph before the braking point. Felipe turns into the corner, so much so, it made contact with the Toro Rosso, resulting in Felipe spinning out.

I think Sebastien had every right to defend his line. I don't understand how the car on the outside line is allowed to collide into the car that has the inside line and the car that is in no wrong (in my opinion) gets penalized! This is truly sickening.

i agree with you. even the speedchannel was like WTF is massa doing. Borday can only move so much to right before heading into the grass. its sad who F.I.A.T i mean F.I.A . gives FIAT a pass.

^ and if Bourdais was clearly in the wrong here, why did it take until after the race to hand out the penalty. To me it's either a racing incident or the blame lies with Massa for his aggression.

and apparently the stewards decision was against the advice of the official FIA race director (hmmm sounds familliar)

I believe it was because it was so late in the race. It was too late to hand out a penalty.

Well just like the Speed channel was saying. Why is it taking so long for them to give out the pit pentaly. btw that spun out happened in the Teens (lap50 out of 67 ) so they had enough time to have someone do a pit penalty.

That incident was Massa's fault, IMHO. At this point neither Felipe nor Lewis deserves this championship, with the stupid things they and their teams have done.

I guess you can afford to roll the dice when you know your car is so superior. This is why I hope Renault and BMW can close the gap next season.

I also agree it was Massa's fault, but it was a racing incident that shouldn't occur a penalty. Massa simply misjudged Bourdais speed and clipped his front. His only thought at the time was making up time on the next car to gain more points.

i guess since Bourdais drives for Toro Roso ( a ferrari engine) they must of said that bordais was at fault which wouldnt suprise me one bit. now if boudai was driving for renault or some other car company, i wonder if they would appeal this penalty.

and hamilton being so dumb on the first corner, he should of just let kimi and kovo go. instead he had to act all crazy for nothing.

I find it appalling that so many car manufacturers, each spending tens of millions of dollars to shave hundredths of a second in their cars, are governed by a bunch of imbeciles! How are the people working for the governing body such as F.I.A still allowed to be in power?! This is the highest formula of racing; the pinnacle of motorsports! This is the leading edge of automotive technology featuring some of the best, if not the finest handful of drivers on this planet. Fernando Alonso did around 5 laps at the Fuji race track at exactly 1:19.2seconds!

None of us can stop a stopwatch with our finger on the button, at 1:19.2 seconds 5 times in a row, let alone drive 4 miles of winding road course with that kind of metronomical consistency. How can the ruling body of this sport be so irregular (and dare I say, biased towards Ferrari) and nothing be done about it? There are so many studies of similar situations, yet the ruling is almost always different! What gives?!

Renault F1 Team driver Fernando Alonso, who won the Singapore and Japanese Grand Prix, has declared to the Spanish newspaper 'AS' that he will help Ferrari's Felipe Massa to win the 2008 championship title if he can.

Alonso said: "Yes, no doubt, if I can help, I will help Massa." The Spaniard added that both Massa and Hamilton have lost a lot of points. "They have lost a lot of points," Alonso said. "After 16 races the leader has 84 points. In 2006 I had 82 in nine races.

Come on, you're not even on the same team. You're not supposed to make your hate this apparent, Alonso. He also didn't consider the fact that more teams are competitive this season and that points are more evenly spread out amongst the teams. Maybe he's just trying to get in good with Ferrari....
