quick pull back of an earlier statement. My dad is not changing the rear brakes becasue he can't. no one makes a conversion kit for the 3/4 ton version.

My dad handed me this today. Sorry it's a little long, but this is directly from him.

This is Steakboy's Dad. He has asked me to fill you all in on my truck project. The truck is a 1950 Chevy ¾ ton pick up. I have been looking for a late forties to early fifties Chevy for some time. Here on the east coast they are hard to find in good condition and untouched. I did not want to buy a truck that someone else already screwed up. This one was in good shape and the right price. I really wanted a ½ ton but I couldn’t let this one get away. ChrisM got it right when he called it an old school restorod. I am doing a frame off resto on a low budget. I also wanted to do things different. Everybody drops a small block in them. Old school rodding started back before there were small blocks. This truck originally had a 216 6cyl but the engine in this truck was replaced with a 235. I have put on dual carbs and headers, that’s old school. I saw someone asked about disc brakes. No kits are available for the ¾ ton. I have totally rebuilt the brake system including install all new stainless steel brake lines. If I ever do decide to change the engine it will be with a big block and then I will change the suspension and brakes. I am replacing the electrical system and upgrading it to 12 volt. All new gauges. The fuel tank is no longer in the cab behind the seat. I fabricated a storage area at the front of the bed and that is where I am putting a marine 18 gal. fuel cell. Behind the seat where the fuel tank was is where I am putting the amp and speakers. The radio is going in the glovebox out of sight. Radio’s were an option on these trucks. The bed floor will be oak like an original except no metal strips. Instead the strips will be red oak and the floor white oak. Also the tailgate will have an inlay of red and white oak. The first layer will be the white oak and the Chevy bowtie cut out, the second layer will be red oak with Chevrolet cutout exposing blue on the tailgate sheet metal. This will give it a red white and blues theme. Steakboy will keep posting photos and keep you up to speed.

Say Hi to him for me; bet he'd get a kick out of the Michaels thread
/end thread hijack
I just showed a buddy of mine your thread here. He left in a huff all giddy and antsy at the same time (see smiley: ) to go work on his project truck that he's been putting off.

I love to see projects like these...restoring "life" back into an antique that someday would most likely have ended up as just scrap metal. What I love most is the time, effort, patience and dedication people have to do this.
"thumbs up" to you and your dad Steakboy.

Hey steakboy, your dad has good taste. I own a 1950 Chevy truck as well, but mine is a half ton, its got a shorter bed. It looks like you have a 55-62 235 motor in that truck, its not original but it is a good bolt-in upgrade. Mine is in a bit better shape than yours was when I got it but its due for a rebuild and paint job, I'm planning that this summer. I already swapped the motor to a 261 out of a '62 suburban a couple of years ago, but I scored a 302 GMC motor out of a dump truck a couple of months ago that I'm going to hot rod and put in (still a straight six but with a 4" bore and stroke).
A classic truck makes a nice compliment to an RX8. The 235 six cylinder engines aren't all that powerful but they are smooth and reliable.

Quick text update. My dad has mounted the fuel cell and the new fuel pump. He is continuing work on the bed. He told me he grabbed more pics the other day, so I'll steal them from him and put them up soon.
