I would be pissed if I was still a WRX owner it seems like they change the design every 1.5 years.

Nothing to be pissed about. They only change the looks normally. Even when they upped the engine size on the WRX to 2.5L not many people cared. Why? The cars are so easily modded. Some people trade in to the new model but most just keep what they have and mod it and have fun.

the STI 'limited'... leather interior, no wing... don't remember if they softened the suspension just a bit or anything... but thats about it. it si certainly a good idea. if i were in the market for a new car, id probably be hardpressed between a 'normal' & a 'limited', & very few other cars.

i like the second picture that ike posted, like everyone else seems to. it definitely shows some stronger connections to the saab sport wagons & others, especially the shape & angle of the B-pillar. i approve.

The Impreza will go back to a 2 door coupe and a 4 door sedan. I would suspect that WRX and STI models will be availible as coupes and sedans.

The reason for the change is that Subaru's WRC competition is getting smaller. The EVO and the STI are alot bigger than the 3 door hatches currently run by Ford,Citroen, formally Pugeot.

Also rememeber that the styling above the bumpers is there so they can use it on the rally car. I know its ugly and "rice" but these cars have been this way since the early 90's.
A 3000lb STi that looks halfway decent? I'll take one!

I would suspect it will be between 3000 and 3200lbs. The chassis of the Impreza is super strong even in road trim. They do this so they don't have to do as much reinforcment when they build the rally car.

I don't like the hatch... dunno what you see in it. EvoX over that. If I want a hatch I'd get on VW to bring the R32/R36 over to the US...

I wonder how hard it would be to turn a WRX into a WRX STi limited (in terms of looks)...

On a related note, I remember reading posts about WRC requiring hatchbacks in the next couple years. However, I can't find any official news about this. Do you know of any press releases, articles etc that explain the change?

That sounds like suicide for the WRC series. The manufacturer involvement isn't as strong as it could be already, and requiring a HATCHBACK body would legislate some of the cars already in the series out of existence.

Not that we here in the USA can watch WRC racing anyway.

That soon for the limited, not for the redesign.

There aren't going to be rules requiring a hatch, it's just speculation that Subaru is going to go that direction so they can have a shorter wheelbase and a smaller car that is better suited for tight rally stages.
