Exclamation Buy Parts for the RX or buy the Corbra

Well this is how it is right now. I have some money burning in my pocket.

I have a 2004 RX 8 that is completly stock except the w7 12 and JL 1000/1 in the trunk. Im currently in Orlando going to school for a year so my car is up north. My cousin is selling his Cobra 2003 for 6 g's (after he put it in the ditch). So it needs 3800 in body work its all cosmetic. So total a lil under 10 g's for a Cobra. Or my other option is to put some money into the RX.

First ? with the right set up can a RX hang or beat a Cobra. Heard there something like 390 hp dont really know if its at the crank or at the wheels im thinkin the crank. But still is there a set up that can make me happy as buying this car....

This is where all you RX 8 experts answer or throw some suggestions at me.

Not really looking to spend more than 10k right now but thats my current budget.

Well I have school early so Ill be back to see the suggestions tomorrow....

Not really a big FORD GUY myself but I do know its a bad a$$ car for the money.

So PLEASE HELP ME MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION BECAUSE I LOVE MY RX 8!!!

I have a feeling this Cobra needs a lot more work than you think, if not it's a steal of a price. Don't even attempt to make an RX-8 hang with a conbra in a straight line, by the time you do it you could have just bought a nice used Cobra and kept your RX-8 as well.

If you're after ***** out speed the Cobra is far better than the RX-8, if you want more balance and handling the RX-8 is the better car.

ssheeeit....if you got 9K to burn. Turbo!! Scott at Mazsport is doing big things with tuning, increasing the efficiency of boosting.

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ighlight=turbo

These dyno sheets were posted today.

Mazsport is in Clearwater or St. Petersburg. I can't remember which...so you're close enough to drive through and get yourself hooked up.

Then you put a pulley in the Cobra for a couple hundred dollars and it's bye bye turboed RX-8. Put 9k into a Cobra and you're looking at possibly 600+whp.

The difference is :

New turbo kits are coming out for the RX8 that will get you to around 350 WHP, with the additional $ you can fiddle with the suspension & get a tremendous 3000 lb., 9000 RPM everyday car that handles very well.

For the Mustang Cobra, you get a pully, chip, exhaust, etc & you are looking at an easy 475 whp. Handling is decent, but a 3600+ lb car, is a 3600+ lb. car.

If you are looking for straightline speed then your choice is clear. Personally, 350 whp (on a car that handles) on an everyday car is more than fine for me. Maybe I'm just getting old but the days of 600+ whp cars that can't handle worth a damn, heavy, low revving, plain interior, loud just isn't for me. For some people hp is the end all be all of it.

This thread is BS. I don't care if the Cobra was rolled on the highway....it would still cost more than $6K. I've looked for 03/04 Cobra's with light damage to use as a donor car.......you can't find them for less than $14-16K, and these are cars that need more than $3800 in repairs. For $6K this guys Cobra must be in real trouble or has a million miles on it......I would stay away (can you say 'money pit').

However, if your still interested......not only does the 03/04 Cobra have a lot more power to begin with......they are extremely cheap to mod. You can get a s/c upgrade kit for the Cobra that will put 450 to the wheels for less than $4K. Like Ike said, put $9K into the car and you can easily have 600whp. Unless you have a turbo 20B swap planned, there is no way you'll get that out of your RX8........but then again, why would you want to? An RX8 with 600whp would be worthless without traction (no hook, no go). If you want a straight-line muscle car, get the Cobra.....if you want a balanced sports car, then do some light modding to the RX8.

You can cure the RX-8's power deficit easier than you can cure this Cobra's issues with cosmetics, handling, center of gravity, and weight.

Of course, for $6k...you might just buy this thing and part it out to someone on the Factory Five forums. Their Cobra (ie, fiberglass replica of the 1965 roadster) uses a last-gen Mustang donor, and you can't do much better than a Cobra. I remember someone over there bragging because they had found an entire low-mile Cobra donor car (rolled, of course...but running) for like $8k.

$3800 in repairs to fix a car worth probably 25-30k and he's selling it for 6k?

It makes no sense otherwise he would fix it for $3800 by a body shop and sell it in the 20's to make a profit of 10-15k more than he would selling it to you!

Putting a $30,000 car into a ditch would cost more than $3800 to fix I would think enless it was a very shallow ditch. Hell a fender bender damaging hood, front dam, and fender would cost near that price.

An Rx8 would not be able to keep up with a cobra, and to ensure of that the cobra would only need to spend a measly $2300.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

A swap to a Kenne Belle Blower and youd see another 200 hp on top of that = game over for Renesis

It has to be total BS......or it's a GT and not a Cobra.

Agreed.
No one is stupid enough to charge less than a quarter of the cars value unless there is some serious damage to it.
And if there is that much damage to it, the chassis must be fuked up, and if thats the case I wouldnt feel comfortable speeding in something like that

Looks kinda like BS to me too, but he DID say it was his cousin. I dunno about you guys, but when my family has sold cars to each other, they try to do it for a really low price, even if they're taking a hit by doing that. I doubt we'd knock that much off the price, though.

If the car really is a 2003 Cobra and needs only $3800 in repair......he could ask for $12K and his phone would not stop ringing. Go look online for what these cars sell for......there is no way this is legit. Family or not, I would not take a $6K (or more) hit on my car for a cousin......**** I wouldn't take a $6K hit for my brother.

Well Im sorry to hear that from you. But everthing that I said is the truth. My Cousin is got a payment of over a grand every month that he is trying to get rid of. Plus on top of that he already owes me some money. I called him a couple of days ago because I heard he was looking for some money. He told me that he owes Six grand on his car still and that he would sell it to me for that price. But it had 3800 dollas in damage. Im going to go look at it Fri. when I fly up there.

But I would like to thank all the people for the advise. And if I dont buy the car I would gladly help one of yall to buy it. The deal is legit, the only thing that makes it this good is that he has a family that needs the money more than the car.

Thanks again for the info.

If this deal is legit then you would be a fool to pass on it. Get the Cobra before your cousin comes to his senses.

If the deal is legit email me at modforcespeed@yahoo.com and I will but it now. I have owned 6 Mustangs and built several for others and I would buy this one for myself.
