guess i am the biggest loser.

haiyah...i really dun care about the mileage lah.....500km...450km...400km....1000km....i just like to drive the car...just want to enjoy driving the car. there is no need to enjoy the car by driving fast....just driving the car is a happy deal itself.

think we should use a black tape and mask out the KM gauge.

No doubt driving hard is fun. But in real life and in SG, its impractical to whack at every turn.

Not that i really mind the petrol bill, but its dawn upon me that i kinda look silly reving so hard and fast when every 100 metres theres a traffic light. Or does it seem unneccessary when you see people still stepping on the gas when the lights are red a short distance ahead. Waste fuel and brakes; not to mention the undue stress of sudden acceleration and deceleration the car suffers.

Our 8 looks fast enough not to prove to other road users that we are fast. And when you go by so fast, people do not get much of the chance to see how beautiful the car is.

The old twin turbo 7 is faster but drinks even worse.

The engineers at mazda noted that FC is also important as performance so they manage to reduce FC for the 8 while maintaining it in NA form. Vast improvement over the 7.

One thing to note, out of 10 ferrari i see on the road. 9 drives at the normal pace. Do they mind the FC or speeding tickets? No. Just that the rich and established guy at the wheel knows 2 things. 1) His car is fast and he needs not flaunt it. 2) More people will see him and his car when he is slower.

And the 1 ferrari that i see that flew past. The driver has a P-plate on the back.

Just remember that everyone is different and there is nothing wrong if some owners choose to drive conservatively and even if they post some decent FC mileages, it does not mean they drive very slowly all the time or do not enjoy themselves as much as the other guy/gal who drives fast and have lower FC figures. Case in point, Cannavaro hit 500km before refueling, but he also drives like a bat out of hell (must be making up for his time in OZ). High FC may be due to some technical defect or poor tuning so it does not necessarily equate to fun driving. We are just posting our figures for info it's not a competition of who has the best FC. Bottomline is, be more tolerant since we're all one big happy family of 8 owners.

you got me right there!!!! but it was a one off thing...nv got more than 450 after that !!! and even so...i still get around 420 to 450 every full tank and i dun drive like a ***** to get that kinda mileage...

2. Superb engineering on the RX8 ... I don't doubt it .. in fact thats the reason why I got this car .... but hey ... if you were to max out the car here in Singapore... any idea of the conserquences? By the second gear you are already doing more than 100km ..... and when you engage your third gear EVEN with the smoothest gear change .. you are looking at least 130KM/h..... hey ...wats the speed limit in Singapore? 40KM more than speed limit = court case ..... 50km = suspension of license ... no two ways about it .... wats the use of an excellent engine when you dun even have the license to enjoy your ride????

!!

50KM over..is not immediate suspension... just minus 24 points and sit out for 2 yrs.... also depends on the magistrate's feelings that day ...hehe...and u may get to drive for about 2-3 months after u get caught but after that its all hell... haha

ive been there n done that ...ya dun wanna go where i went ..LOL

About 8 years ago when i was a frequent clubber at mohd sultan. I always see a young guy wearing a cap driving a Ferrai down that stretch.

What Kenny says is very true. As long as you enjoy driving the car, all else doesn't matter. Whether you drive fast or slow. Its the experience that counts.

Poor FC?

I am not trying to boast or anything but I have relatively pretty good FC or about what I had expected out of this car. Its about 50% worse than my previous car (a 2litre Golf GTi) but am getting what I expected. They are both MT cars. I do about 50:50 city to highway driving.

I get around 8km/l or anything between 480 to 505 kms per tank with about one or two litres left in the tank. (ie past the low fuel mark.) I get about 290 to 305kms at the halfway mark of the indicator. I have never been accused of driving like a granny, if the number of current speeding tickets outstanding in Malaysia is anything to go by which is 9. Or an annual average of 3 speeding tickets (albeit in different states when I was working in the US.) But I also don't trying to redline it with every opportunity of 30metres of open road on the ECP either. But I do love the sound of the rotaries at high revs though.

My dad had always said that one of the indicators of skilful driving is how to drive without using the brakes a whole lot ie use gear change and/or anticipatory driving ie smooth driving. (But I also remember my mum yelling at my dad to brake a lot or to slow down a lot when I was a kid. )
He loved his sports cars until too many kids forced him to be more domesticated with his car choices.

I see a lot of Malaysian drivers (hey I am Malaysian too) in their Proton Sagas (sorry Morgan!!) accelerating like a bat out of hell onto the left lane to over-take only to realise that 20meters ahead there is a car blocking its path and then they will have to suddenly brake!

I don't know why the car is performing like this. Maybe its the new firmware, maybe I don't redline it enuf, lack of using the brakes or maybe its manual trans or I have a freak car?!! But all I know is that I seem make all sort of excuses to use the car -- driving across town to buy a box of toothpicks when I can go to the local convinient store or volunteering to drive or pick my wife to & from work nearly every day. The buses or cabs seem like good enuf modes of transport for her in my books in the past. So in many ways, she thinks the 8 has made me a better person!! So now, I actually tell her that I will pick her up form work... to save her a few bucks in cab fares!!! (which I highly doubt it is but i love driving the 8.)

Driving mostly at constant throttle ard 140km/h.. Mostly highway driving... For a small part was driving 230 km/h..... (I was road tripping with evo's, sti's and s15's)....

I reset the odo when i filled up the tank. I did ard 315km (with ard 1/4 tank left).... I could have probably done 340km.. Please remember i am turbocharged!!!

Think shifting at higher rpm or doing faster speed does not significantly affect fc. It is the start and stop that counts. Each time you brake, you lose the momentum(kinetic energy) that can carry it for a some distance. Energy cannot be created or destroyed. Using higher rpm is less efficient(more heat loss) but it is not that significant to cause you to lose 1km/l(Maybe at most 0.5km/l). It is your driving style. Remember that if you brake at 90km/h cos you speed towards a red light and have to brake abruptly, the fuel you wasted could have let you move another 7-800m at 70km/h. That is where all your lost number goes.

Another suggestion: Change the music that you are playing in the car!! Faster music, faster the driver!

I am sure that this contributes to 40% of the increase FC.

So Morgan, no more Scorpians, Krokus or Marilyn Manson and play more Jaime Callum and I am sure that your FC will improve dramatically. ;-)

And the weight in the car affects it too. I get better FC than my 8.4km/l plus without my wife. And i rev even more.

Anyone tried turning off the DSC to see the difference? I know there has been talk on this before but no real conclusions. MOre psychological diff in FC and torgue?

Hot season here now -- no real need for DSC. I have tried it off but not sure whether the car drives differently or not. But then stupid me, keep forgetting to switch the DSC off again everytime I re-start the engine. Not a very conclusive statistical test so far either.

FYI, my car is an auto and still stock, currently city driving gives me about between 7.2 to 7.7km/L.

If I rev it hard for a particular full tank, it still gives me about 6.6 to 7km/L.

Just wanna share my fuel issues with you guys.

See! Alot of people are interested in low fuel consumption for the 8. Though deep inside we all know we in 90% of cars hands down on high FC.

487kms when yellow lights came on. I am starting to wonder whether the sales guy sold me a Mazda 3 instead of a RX8? Very concern now. ;-)

All SG road driving this week -- quite a few rush hour drives on ECP/AYE (to Shenton Way) and city driving? (Am over 512km in yellow warning light at the moment -- not sure how much more I am going to drive before chickening outand fill her up.)

My 8 is a freaky-dickie.
