So, Belgiums buy your car in Holland????

When washing my car yesterday, and cleaning the two ditches very carefully that are there now for several years, I thought of the ditch in your 8 and how that realy must hurt indeed. I hope they can fix it! I got mine the same way Patrick did, and yes, it got me furious also.
The Silver Upgrade finally has left the building of my dealer! Seems that I was misinformed about the date his new owner was going to drive it. Haven´t seen it on the road yet, but there is at least one new RX 8 driving in Holland!

For foreign buyers, cars are very cheap in the Netherlands.
Car manufactureres give a lot of discount on their cars when selling them in Holland. That is because of the high taxes.
They have to do so, if they want to sell cars here.
Buying, as a foreigner here in the Netherlands, gives you two benefits.

Last saterday I went to the local dealer (which is not my dealer) I spoke about concerning the 8 with discount.
It was a black HP, but it was a car that was used by the dealer.
8000 km on the clock. 6000 euro's discount.
He also had a Titanium Upgrade, same as mine and a lot of MX 5 (my previous model).
Sales of the 8 are not going well here Patrick. My dealer has got two models, a Silver and a Green one since december 2003.
The ditch can be removed without painting that part of the car. They will do it with some kind of Teflon thing ???
They did that twice on the trunklid of my MX 5 after shutting it with bottles of wine standing right-up.
Yesterday was a nice day for compliments. Sitting on my balcony above my parking place, a lot of people came by and talked about the 8, making nice remarks etc. not noticing my presence.
Patrick, sorry to hear you are also ditched .... Feels rotten, I know.
Nice to be contacted by an RX 8 interested person.
Looking forward to thursday when my car will be upgrated even more.
And Ceacil, time is running, so another few weeks and you will get your 8 too!!!

Back in the old days (1993), a real polite woman scratched my MX-3 badly when parking, and actualy did put a note whith her name and adress under my windsreenwiper, and best of all, she did pay the damage. Miracles sometimes happen!

They aspect to sell about 100 RX-8 in total in Holland this year. For a small town like Beverwijk they hope for at least one other, but are glad with the two sold already.
And he had some good news. My 8 indeed is estamated to arrive May 1st (in Antwerpen). Whitin one month's time I should be able to drive it, and reproduce the sound of his Kawasaki with my car!!! That actualy was meant as the greatest compliment he could have ever made.
Oke, I keep my fingers crossed it will not be delayed.
And Patrick, did you make the pictures? Looking forward to see your modifications on a Red!

Thanks to Caecil my attention was drawn to the benelux area. My 8, vel red, HP should arrive on the 20th of april.
Since I've ordered mine, I only saw 1 black 8 ( in my back mirror ), so it's hard to say we're driving ordinary cars.
I'm a little concerned about all the reflash hype of the PCM you read on the US forum. A last service bulletin dd 12/04/2004 (Mazda North America) states it's important, for cars build before 12/03/2004. to update the PCM to at least M-calibration.
How comes there's so little attention for this item on the european site.
Since I've ordered mine, I only saw 1 black 8 ( in my back mirror

Do you know a bit more about this callibration, even for a 192HP car?
I know a lot about the mechanical aspects but not enough about the electronical aspects. So I can hardly understand the real effects of callibration; and what is a G-callibration.
Please inform us all if you have more knowledge about this technic.

I don't know what PCM means, but my car is defenitely from before the stated date. And your car too Patrick.
Tommorrow I am going to the dealer. Hopefully somebody on this forum can clear this up so I could discuss this than.

I would not worry too much about the US re-calibration issue. Based on my experience, I'm pretty sure EU and US models do not share the same calibration due to different emission regulations and customer requirments. And the problems mentioned by some 231hp owners might never appear on the simpler 192 hp version. Also, our cars were built later than the early US ones which means they received later updates in the calibration to start with!
I drive an early EU 192hp RX-8 (was at the showroom in January) and I didn't notice any engine problem so far. And I must admit the engine calibration is very good : smooth and driveable yet very responsive.

Note that it does not mean we won't have a re-cal sometime in the future. They are usually brought out to address specific issues (hardware changes, hardware protection, driveability issues at a given speed and load...), not as an overall performance or fuel economy improvement.
