Alternative plan

As posts are drying up a bit, I thought I'd ask a couple of questions:

Do you have an alternative/backup plan if for any reason you change your mind on the RX8? Or will you absolutely have the 8 no matter what?

I did think of the 350z but it seems im too late, and I would struggle with a 2 seater as well. On top of that it just doesnt do it for me.

My current backup is to spend £2k on the Prodrive Performance Pack for my Impreza which will take it to 300bhp and 299 lb/ft, 0-60 in 4.6 and keep the warranty.

This would make it one hell of a car anf be in a different league to the Mazda, but for some reason the overall package of the RX8 still appeals more to be than out and out performance. I really hope Im not disappointed.

I have no backup plan because I wasn't even thinking about a new car until the RX-8 came along. The lust started sometime last year when I spotted an RX-Evolv pamphlet at the local Mazda shop when I took my MX-5 in for a service.

If it isn't nearly as nice in the flesh or the test drive doesn't impress then, well, I've only lost £100. There's nothing else around at the moment that really grabs me.

350Z on order but it's unsure as yet where in the queue I am. Assuming that Mazda UK gets its act together very soon and I get to change my colour then I doubt I'll move away from the RX-8.

Mark,

No backup plan at present. To be honest my heart's set on the RX8, the package, looks and practicality.

I don't think we'll be dissapointed when it finally arrives.

Cheers

Same as lurcher, wasn't really thinking of buying a new car. Although I was thinking of getting a second hand motor, but hadn't really decided on anything.

Then I saw the eight in the middle of last year, went to the motor show, and it's just grown on me more and more as time has gone on.

There is no alternative for me, the eight has everything I want in a car.

Alternative Plan:
* It **was** the M3 but I decided against it.
* Prior to the M3, I was just going to save money,
stock options mean nothing, cash is king so I was hoarding.

My logic to get a car was: "its better than buying another computer" like most Silicon Valley people, although the new 17" Apple Notebook (titanium) is pretty cool .. what am I saying here, the RX-8 is cooler! So no hoarding, no nerd computer, no unreliable BMW, just stick w/ a reasonably priced fast rotary car which everyone is going to admire you for anyway.

Over here, BMWs are infamous for problems with their indicator lights [turn signals]. Does that affect US models as well?

Cool we don't need no stinkin' alternatives..

TT was a choice on my list, but too 'volksy',
Nissan Z, I love that motor, but overpriced,
WRXSTiJKEtc, bro-in-law has one, very fast, but BUTT UGLY.
Friend put me off the BMW's his dealer was a rip off ARTISTE'

If the RX8 falls thru, I will have to drive my Legend for ANOTHER fourteen years!

If I don't get an 8, I might be a 6 (but it would only be because of money since there is only 5K difference I REALLY hope this doesn't happen).

My other plans are Altima or maybe a used car for a few years until I CAN afford the 8.

What the hell am I thinking here, I would give my right foot..... nah left foot (at least I can use auto with only 1 foot) to get an 8.

I'll find a way if it kills me LOL

Nope - wasn't looking until the RX8 came along either.

Probably keep in integraR for a while. Nothing out there really inspires me at the moment except the RX8....
In my dreams I would like an EVO8 but reality is too expensive to run.

I have to agree with you guys.

Last car I bought was/is my 1990 Honda Accord Ex 4dr 165k running strong and looking great. I just hope the 8 lives up to my 14 year Honda experience.

I dont want to lose my Honda either

Has been fantastic car. All that performance , and 9,000rpm with no more than normal service intervals (including the odd track day). 80,000 miles and has not missed a beat.

I am taking her to the 'Nurburgring' in May for a last waltz.... Seems rude not to.

I first saw the RX8 over 18 months ago as a concept and loved the shape but did not really think about it again until the pricing was announced in Jan which reminded me of the car.

If it does not work out I will keep the TTC with which I have had no problem and had the RX8 been in the 350 price bracket I would have probably skipped.

Everybody who has actually seen the car raves about it which is great and with a little rev use it should go well too.

I'm pretty sure that's the 350Z concept, I don't think you'll be seeing it.

Nah stick out the wait and pick up one of the most stunning cars of the next 5 years. At the end of the day your Impreza is just another modified saloon car and can be modified to match the performance of most supercars. The RX8 is a proper coupe with stunning performance AND stunning looks.

I can't wait for mine and have not regreeted selling my impreza at all.

The only other Subaru I will buy is the one seen at the Geneva Motorshow which is a RX8 B-pillarless design!!!!!!

That is the Nissan Skyline GTR-35 concept car. I saw it at the Tokyo motor show a couple of years ago and there are currently no plans to put it into production.

The only other car I am considering is a new Subaru Impreza WRX with the Prodrive Performance Pack. That should come to about £22000.

I would only consider that though if something changed drastically to change my mind.

For now, it is firmly RX-8.

Shahpor,

If you change your mind about the RX8, you can buy my MY02 WRX STi TypeUK Impreza for less than £22000 ! :D :D

I had a standard WRX with the PPP before and the STi is loads better

Having seen the amount of depreication on my 2 Imprezas I would strongly suggest buying used not new anyway.

Im sure you'll love the RX8 so shouldnt need to worry about it..

If this doesn't happen then I will be buying a new kitchen and bathroom. Doesn't have quite the same power output, but gets much better mpg.

Actually I've been looking for quite some time for a new car, but just haven't found anything that I really liked until now. I'd probably end up getting either a TT coupe, an S2000, or an Elise.
None of those are quite what I want though, so why bother ?

Hopefully Mazda will wake up and start talking to us a bit more.
Still another 4 months before the first batch of cars are due.

Thanks MarkW, I will bear that in mind.

Actually, I have seen the picture of your car and it looks really nice.

If anything happens to the RX-8, I will let you know!

I don't think anything will happen though, and as you said, I think I will love the RX-8 when it arrives.
