Have you ever driven the dragon? If it was a recreational road do you realize how many people would push it over the limit and get seriously injured or die...

I'm not saying don't police it, or post a speed limit. Simply don't allow commercial traffic like Semi's.

So make the guys who are actually working...take another route which will add many extra miles between trips...Just so people can kill themselves on the Dragon?

Hmmmm... yea, I would say they have no business on a road that they have to violate traffic laws just to drive down. If you can fit in the lanes, then sure, have at it, but otherwise you have no business being on the road.

You honestly think there would be any less traffic than there is now with no semi's on the road? The more traffic, the slower the average speed, so I don't understand your analogy to more people would die if there were no oversize vehicles traveling down the road.

How is this more safe?

TN Law:
55-8-120: Further limitations on driving to left of center of roadway.
(a-1)
When approaching the crest of a grade or upon a curve in the highway where the driver's view is obstructed within three hundred feet (300˘) or such distance as to create a hazard in the event another vehicle might approach from the opposite direction;

That's good for an average fine of $100 per offense, so lets extrapolate that out over the gap... lets assume they only cross the line 100 times out of the 300 corners. That's at least 1000 in fines.

Now lets address the penalties of "driving on the wrong side of the road". Tennessee will suspend your license at 12 points, and driving on the wrong side of the road is worth 4 points. That means that 3 corners into the dragon, that truck driver should be notified of the intent to suspend his license. At 100 corners he's racked up 400 points on his license.

Case and point, they have no business on the dragon, and TN laws backs that up regardless of the fact that their enforcement agents do not. So you can say what you want, but box van deliveries for locals, and interstate shipments by semi or excessively long vehicles should use an alternate route unless granted an exception in advance (no different than transporting a wide load on the interstate).

http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/centralservices/permit.htm
To prescribe rules in the interest of public safety and preservation of highways, for the issuance and or renewal of special permits for the transportation of such oversize, overweight, or overlength articles or commodities as cannot be reasonably dismantled or conveniently transported otherwise

huge difference in "petitioning" to make a public road open for recreational use only and imposing a weight limit to keep semi's out. the latter makes sense.

Then it's simply a misunderstanding, and poor wording on my part.
