Windsor anyone ???
Hey guys! Thanks for the warm welcome
just purchased a 2004 rx8 gt 6-speed, silver. Thing has 111500kms on it and is in ridiculous condition. I got it off a 70 year old man
(gotta love the old man deal). I just got back to the country actually. I was doing some automotive engineering in Germany for 2.5 years... Needed a car... Settled for the 8.
It's going to end up getting a bunch of work done to it but currently I'm living back at my parents house until I buy my own house and my wife immigrates to Canada from Ukraine. So for now, I'm just seeing what I can break on the car AKA "work out the bugs". Would be good to know of any places around here with lifts for rent. I haven't lived in Windsor for 6 years.
First thing I'm going to do is develop the exhaust system. I should have software on my laptop soon and I'll bang out a decent preliminary exhaust system design once I get some research done. I've done exhaust for standard linear piston, but never rotary. I'm sure it's not that difficult. Once I get it done we can bend it out and see what's up... Probably going to take some time... Still settling in here and whatnot.
Anyways guys, again, it is a pleasure to join the club. We should meet sometime soon while the weather is still forgiving

Hopefully the old man drove it properly, these cars like to be driven. The 8 is a great car and since it sounds like your mechanically inclined you'll enjoy it even more. Here's some good reading put together that will help you start off with your new 8:

The big difference with pistons vs rotary in exhaust is the heat. You might have to manipulate a little bit of thermodynamics but it sounds like a fun project.

Honestly I don't think he drove it to its full potential... But believe me, that's about to change.
Thanks a lot for the reading material. I am sure it won't take me that long to figure out what's going on. I'm glad to have such a car club... Everyone here is willing to participate which is wonderful. So far I'm finding it just as good as Toronto Subaru Club.
But ya... The biggest problem I am having right now is a sub-par location to actually work on the vehicle. I need to measure the bottom of the vehicle and it's practically impossible without hoisting it up.
Again, if anyone knows of any bays for rent or hoists for rent, let me know...

In other words, just give me some time and we will see what can be done. Rotary or not, the thing pumps air.
But ya! Let's get a meet going in November. I'm free everyday past 7pm.
Update ... good news new engine is almost done in my car. and from what I have been told is that it is a NEW not a reman this time. so things are looking up ... and I got my snow tire ready so I can drive it
july till nov to replace a engine.
july till nov to replace a engine.
Oh wow... July to November eh... Wish we had a hoist around Windsor for rent... That swap could have been done in half the time. Did you do anything else while the engine was out?!? Transmission maintenance, clutch/flywheel inspection, motor mount replacement, ect?!?
I told you they will have to go new. Too bad I said that so long ago. I don't like the Windsor Mazda/ I have been dealing with Ferndale Mazda and Chatham Mazda when I HAVE to. My car is safer at Chips.
I got my car running better than ever. Just driving it as much as I can before December rolls through. Insuring both my Integra and RX8 insurance is killer. Fisher, you got yours back yet???
Anyone for cruising one of these days??
