You'll never really get it to operating temps just idleing it. Spend your money on a oil temp gauge. Just don't pedal to the metal when it's warming up or you will flog it. I am not a fan of remote starters, if you really want one by all means.

How long do you normally have to drive it for it to get to operating temp? I live like 2km away from where I work (about a 3 minute drive) and my 6-cylinder winter beater barely gets warm by the time I park it... definitely not planning on flooding my new toy...

well, lol, you won't get it to temp driving 3 minutes, but you will definitely not flood it. Usually a drive around the block is enough to keep from flooding.

We have "seasonal" meets. I go to Detroit all the time. I don't like to drive my 8 downtown D though, my car is allergic to 8foot potholes.

I had a tiburon before... not many people interested in meetups in that scene... guy down the street from me owns a blue '04 rx-8 think he goes to the U... anyone know him?

Hi twelve - or is your nick number 12-0? It's almost time for a meet... I too have wondered what it would take to upgrade my head unit - but I must admit I have an insane desire to geek my ride on one hand - and to leave the computers at home on the other.
Probably time for a meet!
BTW - my workplace has filtered forums ( fora?) and blogs so it's been hard to respond and post at work - although I can see the email msgs.
Latest acquisition - Bluetooth OBDII reader for my Android tablet.

Picked up the car today!!! man.. it is far too easy to speed in that thing... nearly died at the pump too... but totally worth it... actually don't mind the stock sound system to be honest... thought it would bother me much more than it does... i have the in-dash 6 cd changer... not sure if it can play mp3's or not... anyone know? also... the bose audiopilot is a nice feature

I am now officially part of the club...

As for the username... never actually said it out loud... just stumbled across it one day and it stuck... always sounded cool in my head

Awesome news!!!! Mine doesn't play mp3's and it's a 6 disk player. For that little bit more I just added a square solo in a tiny pick up truck box in the trunk with a nice amp. I'm happy with it for now, I mostly drive with it off.

I was nearly religious about putting my 10" rockfords in the trunk but now i'm not so sure that the extra weight and corresponding fuel consumption will be worth it... lol... $50 bucks and all i got was 3/4 of a tank... and it was a little under 1/4 full to start.... nearly shat myself...

yeah.. the granny driving really doesn't do anything for the fuel consumption i've noticed... gone through a full tank of gas over the weekend already

Anyone install the xcarlink or audiolink usb adapter in their 8?

You too? Mine comes apart some more this weekend to fit the Garage Line header. I'll find a place to weld in an EGT probe on the center pipe. The RX8Performance engine mounts won't come in for another week or so, though.

Too bad Fisher won't make DGRR, at a minimum, we'll be lost without his GPS!

I noticed there are two RX8 owners who work at Windsor Assembly (The minivan plant). One is a Blue S1 that has a set of 7-spoke aftermarket rims with snow tires and the other is a Silver S1. I work right by the plant and see them all the time.

I'll keep an eye out for you other guys south of the border

As for me, my RX8 is back on the road and driving great. I have to update my build thread soon as I have done a fair bit to it.

haha, I'm warantyless also. Is there something wrong with your car? With there being more and more 8 owners in the Windsor area, diagnosis and help fixing problems should become fixing/mod meets. I would like to host a mod meet someday in april, my car is getting enough done to it and would like to share the experience and knowledge with other enthusiasts. I've got a laundry list of things to do.
