^ You have to separate driving pleasure and feedback from raw speed. Z06 by far the best bang for the bug but as far as driver involvement, feedback and challenge 997 GT3 or GT RS any day.
BMWs were done as drivers cars a while ago - they are purely poser cars now, no limited slips, run flats, no steering feedback (through their ridiculously thick M sport steering wheels). They are run by accountants and marketing types. Next M3 is probably going to weight 2 tons.
I drove the 135i before recommitting to the 8 - that thing they claim to be a throw back to the E30 - problem is whoever says this appears to have never driven an E30 which is x100 better driver's car / chassis then any of their current "efficient dynamics" cars. It pulled like a tractor with no real exclamation to the rev range, understeered wildly and overall was as involving to drive as it is having sex with a model while your d___ is wrapped with 10 layers of duct tape (pardon the crude analogy - your brain is telling you should be exited about this but you can't feel anything) and this is probably the best drivers car they do right now except the M3 (which I did not drive but hear is much less of a drivers car than the E46 was)
I think our humble little 215 bhp rx-8 is one of the few remaining cars on the market that still offers its driver a genuine reward despite the lack of power. When I took the R3 out through Newton St (From Yonge to Bayview) I was able to give the salesperson from Mazda of Toronto quite a ride on the way as the chassis is class and enables you to look like an expert driver, kicking the *** out and provoking slides with ease.
Tried the same route in a friends 335i and it took allot more effort (probably limitation of driving skills as well) and when it finally started to slide a bit you could feel the weight and the lack of a proper diff...

Well, if your car is a handful to drive and control I would pass. There is a reason 997's get written off all the time on lapping days and Corvettes dont lol. Maybe if your Hans Stuck the Porsche is a better car but for us commoners the Vette is a way better toy. Way cheaper to maintain, way easier to drive faster and totally forgiving when you make a mistake.

You have to realize that I am old and comfort is becoming part of the equation lol.
The EVO was simply amazing on the track, never missed a beat, never got the brakes even hot enough to smell, just did whatever i asked it to do. The stock Yokohama tires didnt shred or chunk, and we were on the DDT which is notorious for hurting tires and brakes. The auto with the paddles in super sport mode was flawless, not as good as the Ferrari's I have driven but its also $300,000 less lol. My only fault in the entire car was it was too harsh for me, the recaro seats hurt my old back after a couple of hours. The power was always there, never fell out of boost. Who ever set the gear ratios in the trans could school Mazda on how a sports car should shift. 1st through 5th were an 1100-1200 rpm drop and the car just doesnt stop pulling. I would give it a 8 out of 10, if the seats were a bit softer and the suspension had a street mode to soften it I would give it a 10 for its value/performance.
Hows that? lol

That pretty much made it sound like it can walk on water!
It sounds brilliant on the track but will make you paralized if you ever drive on it Steeles.
Sad ... still can't find a replacement for the MS6.

The Speed 6 is a much bigger heavier car, much tamer but doesnt have the performance that the EVO does. On the trcak the EVO would drive away from the 6, but the 6 is much more civilized for day to day use. After spending pretty much 3 years straight driving Speed 6's the EVO was a nice change of pace......if it were only that much softer lol
