I've been using 91 since the get go. I was pretty sure that that's what the manual recommended. I will look at it again, but if you guys are saying 87+ then maybe I can save at the pumps.

regarding gas mileage
hey guys just wanted to chime in...i have over 15,000kms on my car.I average 300-320kms per tank>45.00=54litres average.
I don't drive like a grandma ever....but the car seams to get worse gas mileage in town 250-275 if i drive it nice.We all know rotaries need and love to be driven hard.
I also have asked my Mazda Rep regarding any new flashes out,they to aren't sure which one is in my 8.
I though my high boosted 2nd gen got bad gas mileage...at this point it uses less gas:-)

You should have listened to all of us early buyers. The fuel consumption sucks. We never got more than 300 km out of a tank and were averaging 18L/100km. We now use 9L/100km with our G35 coupe. Not as much fun to drive, but is it ever cheap and reliable (no flooding) to operate!
