ECU Reflash

Anybody in Vancouver get the ECU reflashed to the "L" version yet. My 8 isn't getting the mileage that it should and I want to get the ECU reflashed to the new "L" version.

If anyone has had it done, where (in Van) did they get it and did it help at all.

Are most dealers in Vancouver up to speed with this procedure.

Do a search using "ECU" and will find that Mazda was reflashing the ECU to try and get some better gas mileage or atleast closer to what was claimed the car would get. Their was a "K" version but the newest was the "L" version. Just wanted to see who had it done.........if anybody in Canada.

Still nobody with info on the ECU reflash. I only have 1000km on my car so I don't want to complain just yet. Still only getting 16L/100km 80/20 city/hwy. Apparently this reflash helps. Any info would be awesome.

Im in ontario... I know this isnt exactly on the same exact topic...

Would I sound out of line to tell my dealer that I want the most current reflash when I pick up my car??? I know that the car won't have the current reflash because the car has been on the lot for a hile now (waiting for the weather)

This is what my dealer said about version "L" and the gas mileage:

" The reprogram does not apply to all vehicles and we need permission form Mazda techline in order to do it based on certain symptoms....dtc's...I do know for sure that the reprogram will not improve fuel mileage. "

I'm confused.

Got mine done on Friday. Hard to start, and hesitating on takeoff when cold. Dealer didn't know about "L" but it was on the computer. Haven't noticed much improvement in mileage, but it seems smoother now after about 200Km to relearn. Will know in about 2 days ..... seem to refill about that often :-)

I am getting a consistent 26 to 28 mpg (Cdn) for highway results. Also, the low fuel light ccomes on with about 8 litres left in the tank.

Cheers

I got around 475 km on the latest tank before the light came on - all highway (3,000 to 4,000 ft above sea level / +5 C / 110 km/h).

Cheers

In 3200 Km I have averaged 17.4L/100Km. If I drive like a Granny I use approx 16L/100 Km (boring). So thats about 16mi/gal Imp, or 13.5 mi/gal US. if I drive normal..........Reflashed Fri...hope it gets better. My wallet will be happier. My grin doesn't give a S**T :-) I get about 300Km from a tank!

MPG

I have had my RX8 for three weeks now and have exacty 1000 Miles on the engine. When I drive like an old lady...the best MPG I have had was 18 MPG and that is HWY miles. I have heard that the engine would improve in gas mil. a
s I break the engine in.

I've done some researching on rotary engines and info on this board...... apparently using a 89 octane vs a higher octane on the 8 has no difference........

Doesn't seem to make a diff...I have used 87 to 94...87 seems to run as well as 94. No pinging, same mileage so I will try 87 for a few tanks and see what happens

I will try the same thing. Why do you think that they recommend the Premium with the rotary? Is it a high combustion with the rotary? Don't you just love the 8

WOW! The best I have been able to get is 420km...and I thought I was short-shifting!! I average just under 400km per tank - mind you I fill it when the light comes on...I haven't pulled a Kramer yet!

Mileage sucks, but who cares. A small price to pay for the fun I'm having.:D

my service

guys just to answer some of your questions:

i just took in my eight to get recalls done, Port Moody West Coast Mazda....first im pissed, they said the job would take half a day, i brought in my car in the morning at 10am, i found out the car wasn't looked at until 4pm...obvjiously i have to go back tomorrow...

i demanded an 'L' flash, they had no idea what it was, but said they were 'updating' the car with the newest info....so basically, don't know what they are doing until tomorrow...

will look into taking my car to wolfe mazda for service from now on...

guys i just use 89...i think its great....car says at least 87, so i get 89 just to be sure...but will not get 91 or 94....not for an N/A rotary engine....

and use mileage sucks
