I got my 2005 RX8 last winter from Orangeville Mazda, and I live in TO. So obviously I need a dealership around I heard a lot of good things about Scarborough Mazda.

Since it was winter, no meets, etc, I still don't know anyone in there. But I'd like to

Anyone cares about welcoming a NOOB to Scarborough Mazda?

Wanted to do an oil change and chat about problems with the car, but just any service rep wouldn't cut it, since I know something about cars and regular service rep is no good

Well if you know something about cars then you are not a NOOB!

Get Colin to service your car. He is one of the most dedicated mechanics there in terms of rotary engine and Rx8.

And of course, you can talk to the GM, Al Balinsky. He is extremely knowledgeable on these *******...I mean wankel engine. He races them too!

Couple of problems - driver-side rearlight condensation - and the light is not damaged at all from outside. What will it cost me for a DIY? I guess gasket should be enough?

Also, green slime on my dipstick. Looks really scary, but I searched and searched the forums - most people say it's condensation, not coolant leak into the engine (I hope so). I have been monitoring oil and coolant levels, nothing extraordinary. Any hints?

It's a beautiful car, really (after 5000km, some of them on snow with summer tires). And probably the best RWD car I had (topping BMW 325i But, it has some technical peculiarities I already flooded it once when I came from a week's absense in winter and the battery got weak. Oh well, now I know how to deflood it

I actually just had my car serviced for the first time, and took it to scarboro mazda. Collin treated my car well, and Al treated me well, what more could you ask for in a dealership.

Search on the forum...almost everything is on here as he pointed out. Gasket replace., oil normal. Scarb mazda only place to take your car!

I still have 4000km till my oil change, but I guess I will come earlier because this oil has been there for half a year already. And I need a gasket anyways.

After I started driving it a lot, condensation is almost gone - checked today.

I'll try to come to a meet sometime, for sure. Spring has come, this is awesome

If you really love your car, you change your oil every 4000 KM, not 8000 KM.

Scarboro Mazda's good. Just took my 8 there this past monday for tire change and oil change, and they gave nice service and did everything really quick, compared to Toronto Mazda which took 7 hours just to see what was wrong with my car when the 'key' light went on in the dash board, it wasn't even on a weekend where it's usually busy >.>

Didn't actually get to meet Colin, but he did my oil change.

Well, let's think about it.

It will burn approximately 1/2 liter for every 1000km, so you are always adding fresh oil.

And, I heard when oil is changed at the dealership, only half of the oil comes out through the drain plug (I may be wrong here).

So, you kinda freshen it always by adding, and oil change is not a full flush... So 8000km maybe okay for summertime driving, long trips... In winter, short trips/storage - it's a different story.

the other half of the oil is sitting in the oil coolers.

Yea jaz that was my car in the bay the other day. The interior was in pieces thanks to my audio install. But I got the back seats and what not in today, as well as my clear corners. Hopefully saturday the door panels, center console and footwell lights will get installed.

Exactly my point. So, just burn more oil (=high RPMs) and you may never need to change oil at all ))

This is crazy talk...It's literally only 3.5 litres of oil and a $10 filter to do an oil change. Do it every 3000-4000km. What's $20 every 3000km compared to the cost of a rebuilt engine??

besides, I don't change my oil myself, I go to dealership always, which takes more time and is a bit more money. I only do "clean" DIYs on the cars, like audio install/etc

True enough, lol. Crawling under a low car isn't everyone's cup a tea. In that regard I would change every 4000-5000km.

I've been tearing everything apart on this car and I'm slowly learning that it isn't built to be worked on by someone with massive hands. I must have cut up every knuckle on each hand doing pulley and spring work. Maybe it's time to leave the work to the pro's.

bpth.. I just do it as per the schedule... just ensure that there's always oil in the system. Did the same with the second gen... over 200k on the original engine :p
