Actually it is High Power and STD (Standard Power) used here.
As for MY (Model Years),it is an Historic/Regulatory thing for Australia.
We don't talk Model Year but 'build date'..what is on compliance plate.
Been that way for the past 40 years, we used to use the MY as an Advertising Gimmick...it was banned here, you cant advertise any product that way in OZ by regulation.
NO Australian car manufacturer uses it...in Retail.
It is a ridiculous statement to suggest the Australian market is "flooded" with grey market RX-8's, you are very wrong.
You are not permitted to privately import any car that is still on sale in Australia from another country, unless you want to pay a heavy price (TAX, more than the car is worth)...This was Federally changed again 30 years ago to stop Hong Kong RX-7's flooding the AU market.
Edit: Or have actually owned said car in the country of origin for more than 12 months, registration details must be provided to Customs prior to importing..and approved prior to.
Perhaps you are getting "confused" because Australia uses Euro emissions regs and similarities with Brunei, UK, and some Europe RX-8's...
So ECU are similarly configured (All UK ECU and Parts are listed in Mazda Australian EPC)
Like..
N3Z3 (UK 5 Speed Man)
N3Z4 (UK 6 Speed Man)

Case in point:
No. Only the 2004 JDM model is supported.

As I said, perhaps you are confusing the information being given to you just from the "label" printed on installed ECU..and perhaps then claiming they are JDM or whatever.
As you know the vehicles VIN tells origin.(JMZ,JM0,JM1,JM6,JM7,etc)
I am happy to hear (PM me) from all these dozens of "grey" RX-8 owners in Australia.

Andrew and Giustino, here is a new PCM I have of the latest AU one for S2 Manual.
I don't know when (what date) or why Mazda was not consistent for S1 AU RX-8's...with labeling of ECU to PCM Part Number.
Mazda 'generally' does not change Part Number 'model code' (first 4 digits) in parts supersessions. It can add confusion, particularly after a model ceases production like the S1.
See pic.. Note P# on box matches what is on actual S2 ECU id Label..
Also, the 2011 MX-5 PCM I have has matching P# and ECU id Label..
BTW: UK(JMZ) uses the exact same ECU as Australia for their MX-5.(LF9H-18-881E).

Will tell me exactly who imported these cars and from where, and 'may' just assist as a cross reference.

All Series 1 LHD Europe and RHD Manuals from UK and Australia.
Some use the same ECU as a Parts Replacement left or right hand drive, except Russian 5 Speed.
From latest Mazda Australia and latest Mazda Motors Europe EPC.
VIN'S need to be crossed reference as Production Dates (factory installation) are not the same between Countries even though the exact same part (ECU) is used...but not necessarily the same data is flashed or loaded by MMC at production on these same ECU's...maybe this is where a conflict may occur?
N3L9 6 Speed LHD Man Russia, plus RHD Australia, Brunei
N3N3 5 Speed LHD Man Russia.
N3Z3 5 Speed LHD Man ECE, plus RHD UK
N3Z4 6 Speed LHD Man ECE, plus RHD UK
N3Z5 4 Speed RHD Auto Brunei, UK, Australia
N3Z6 6 Speed RHD Man Australia, Brunei

Perhaps I should "Simplify" this...
Contrary to popular belief by the OP, There is no Difference between the HARDWARE, that is ECU/PCM used between any, Australian AUTO, UK Auto , EU, Germany, Italy, Spain or France Series 1 RX-8.
The "hardware" or Part is identical as as replacement OEM Part.
So what is different...the dates on when some of these ECU's were installed does vary slightly, anything up to six months between UK , ECE and (obviously depending on "when" that countries allocation of cars were ordered and made.
Therefore a possible difference between MY (Model Year).
Obviously the 'software' will may vary between country.
The US Model Year is the period between October 1 and the next December 30...."confused".
As I said is it nothing but an advertising gimmick and coincides with their "new" television season...how quaint.
The Model Year is on your VIN# 10th Digit, But NOT on early Series 1 RX-8.
Mazda Japan have only been using MY 10th digit for Australia from around 2008 sort of.
MY 2009 S2 is JM0FE1032903004--
A . 2011 S2 is JM0FE1032B0301181
I have no Idea why they are using Letters to add confusion (2010 was an A), at a guess the factory does not want to repeat Series 1 numbers made between 2003 and 2008, even though model code is different by 1 digit.
