Senior analyst in a funds management/ equity sort of role. I was a management consultant but decided to grow up... :D

I have to battle the Euro-snobbery on a daily basis. I'm not an 8 owner yet, but plan to in the next 3 months. My boss has Audi's for his family, and while I'm a fan, he's obviously not a Japanese fan, regardless of the merits of the individual car! I mean, I find it hard to compare the 8 to an A4. I'm impressed with the new Golf GTi as well, but I think its not that comparable still! I think I'll just shut up and get the 8 under the radar instead of having to hear, "why don't you just get an <insert ridiculously overpriced Euro (sports)car here) instead?"...

Nuh uh - it's the small premium pool and the fact your profession is now prepared to admit it's members make mistakes that have driven up your premiums. Had you all kept schtum we'd have no expert witnesses to call. :p :D

And besides, I've been cured of ambo chasing.

revolver don't forget to add that we don't have immunity from negligence to the extent that barristers have. Funny, when we make (genuine) mistakes it's negligence, when every one else makes a mistake, it's just that, a mistake - human error.

We're digressing from the thread somewhat AMG but a quick riposte is in order.

Immunity for barristers is gradually being eroded or wiped out - gone in the UK now. Remember it only protects us for what we do in court or something closely connected with such work. Does not cover us for general advice work, etc.

As to whether it is fair when other professions don't enjoy a similar privilege - probably not. But if it really does go for good, expect to see most trials run longer and more unnecessary evidence being led because every counsel will be looking over their shoulder to ensure they haven't missed anything. Clients never believe they simply did not have a good enough case - they always want to blame (and sue) somebody. Hell, we're expensive enough creatures - do you really want to pay for even more of our time in every case just for the satisfaction of seeing some of us red carded?

As for whether conduct is negligence or a mistake - I'd agree that the law of negligence became far too permissive. That has gradually been reined in and, if anything, the pendulum has probably swung too far the other way. Hey, nobody likes being accused of negligence but I've spent enough time with the sufferers of somebody else's stuff-up to know that there are many genuine cases where all the money in the world won't adequately compensate them for what they've been through (and will go through).

Sorry, ended up being longer than I intended but don't believe everything your medical defence insurance broker tells you (or the tired articles that journos continue to pump out).

Michael

The website needs a bit of work and updates with photos etc.

My tech guy has been busy so I am going to ask him to provide me with the website details on a disk and I can then make minor changes myself and nominate another person to handle the more complex stuff.
