Some of you may recall that I mentioned noticing vibration in the drivetrain at idle. It disappears as soon as the accelerator is pressed.

Well, as 'Mez suspected, it was diagnosed yesterday by my service guys as an engine mount problem.

Unfortunately, engine mounts are on order until later in the month. I've been assured I can drive the car till then with no damage ensuing but thought I'd check with the wise ones here to see if they agree with that.

Further, and just to get this on-topic (didn't see the point in starting a new thread), do you guys agree that it should be a no questions asked warranty issue and, if not, what do you reckon the cost would be?

Lastly, if anyone wants to feel and hear how this problem presents itself, find me at the cruise on Sunday and you can have a sit and listen.

Clearly a warranty issue Rev unless you had any modifications that would change the loads on the mounts. (Or unusual load factors)
Whilst relatively modest, any changes to the drive train, FI, extra stiffening etc might be challenged. (or if you raced it!)
Pretty safe with a catback etc.

No worries with driving it, but I'd keep it off the track until the mounts are replaced (lesser lateral forces being applied on the road...).

Yes, it's a 100% warranty issue. Known problem.

Thanks Mike,

Only mods barely relevant to the drivetrain are short shifter and catback - no way known they could affect the mounts.

Whiteline sways have made it stiffer but again I would find it hard to believe sways alone could damage the mounts.

Never been raced and Mazda encourage track days.

Thanks 'Mez.

No immediate intentions to track it.

I'll keep you posted re: warranty.

40k service done today at Eagers Mazda, $277.
They have fixed the parcel shelf rattle under warranty, my squealing brakes were due to over glazed Rotors, they machined these and wanted to charge $60, as not covered by warranty, I told them that I had complained about the brakes at every service and they had tried various fixes and that this cost should be covered, they gave in and agreed.
Engine mounts are being replaced under warranty, on order should be here next week.
I will have a new car soon the way Mazda are replacing parts on my car under warranty, and people driving up the rear requiering a new rear bumper.

Just picked the car up after having both engine mounts replaced, so smooth again, I had forgotten how smooth it was before all the shuddering started.
Smile back on my face again.

For those who may be interested, I have set up State by State sticky threads on www.rx8club.com.au to enable people to post more geographically relevant service experiences and costs
